Detective fics in HP fandom

RULES

What I take:
- the main thing in a detective story is investigation. I’m asking you to take into consideration the following:
- an investigation should be either conducted by the authorities/organisations/any figure of authority/person in charge and/or be thought of as *investigation* by those who carry it and/or the fic should feature handwriting/blood/hair/etc analysis and systematic compilation of evidence aimed to reach, eventually, a suspect;
- a story can be entirely detective, but also it can be action/adventure or mystery with a strong detective element;
- crossovers with the classics of the detective genre such as stories about Sherlock Holmes or Agatha Cristie’s fiction fit automatically.

Won’t do:

- kids (for ex. Harry, Ron, and Hermione) playing ‘investigators’ like they did trying to figure out who Nicolas Flammel was in PS;
- someone just pondering over the secrets of somebody/something.
- no WIPs that have only a chapter or two written; I’d also prefer no abandoned WIPs that don’t show most of the story.
- no drabbles;
- do not bring fics that you haven’t read;
- do not bring fics that you didn’t like;
- do not bring fics the authors of which show no decent grammar or spelling skill even if you liked them;
- do me a courtesy, do not leave only a link. I’d be really grateful if you tell me (besides the title and author) whether the fic is a WIP or completed, what the pairings and the rating are. You’ll spare me hours of rushed reading! If you are unsure about a certain fic, describe it in some detail and ask.

Stories are sorted by TITLE in alphabetical order, excluding articles.

Snape/Lupin, R, 11840 words. Summary: The war has ended, but when a prominent member of the Order turns up dead, all the evidence points to Severus Snape. Betrayals: A Story In Eight Parts, by Josan ** ##
Snape/OMC; R; novel-length. Not entirealy a detective fic but has an investigation as its important part. Sylvester Black, a cousin of Sirius Black, and Alastor Moody hold an investigation in order to find out who and why had Severus Snape imprisoned and tortured.

Blood and Nails, by Calmardaa #
Harry/Draco; R; novel-length. Draco has been suspected of multiple killings but has been released and lives with Harry. Meanwhile, the killings resume and the time of them are suspiciously the same with Draco’s absense from home. Features: volumes of materials, spying and so on.

Her dark wizard relatives certainly aren’t. Being thrown in at the deep end on her first case doesn’t make things any easier, either. Harry/Draco, Harry/Teddy Lupin (really minor, almost not at all), Harry/Zacharias Smith (minor); NC-17, 33K words, AU. Summary: Private investigator, wizard, thorn in many people’s sides. Harry Potter’s a jack of all trades. Warnings: AU, plucky first person narrative, non-major (aka: minor OC) character death, accidental bottom!Harry :P Kinks include first-time, rough sex, dirty talk, rimming, wall sex and shower sex.

Yes people are going to die and things might get a bit gruesome from time to time. Sorry about that.

Harry/Draco; R; discontinued WIP. It’s not a detective fic but a criminal novel, they are closely-related genres but still different. But I decided to put it on the list nevertheless. Summary: “In London’s seedy criminal underworld, two old enemies have become partners in crime, but the wizarding world is out to disrupt Harry’s none too peaceful existence.”

The Stolen Child, by Ella Bane and Maeglin Yedi #
Harry/Draco, NC-17 overall, discontinued WIP. Warnings: Explicit slash, violence, minor character death. Summary: Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy; unwilling partners in their third and final year of Auror training. But when their first assignment ends in a tragedy, they are forced to combine their talents and skills to unravel a mystery and bring a murderer to justice.

Harry/Draco; R; novel-length. Draco has become a Seer and his life is threatened by unknown people. Auror Harry Potter is assigned to protect him and investigate the case.

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, by November Snowflake ** #
Harry/Draco; PG-13, novel-length. Fits partly, it’s not an entirely detective fic. Summary: In the war-torn years after Hogwarts, one man has no knowledge of his yesterdays.

Twenty Years Later, by Reba Williams NR
Harry/Draco, Harry/OC, Draco/OC, Hermione/Remus, etc; R/NC-17, novel-length. Warnings: Drug Use, Character Death, Multiple Partners, Violence & Rape. Summary: “It’s been almost twenty years since Harry Potter graduated Hogwarts as the ‘Hero of the Wizarding World‘. It was near the end of his seventh year when he finally defeated Voldemort. The details of that battle can be found in any number of history books or in one of the hundreds of biographies about Harry’s Life, well at least the first twenty-five years of his life, nobody knows what happened to Harry the morning after his twenty-fifth birthday. But we are about to.”

In their first case, the two detectives are hired by glamorous blonde Philomela Copestake to investigate the disappearance of her brother Albert, who works for the Daily Prophet. But are things ever as simple as they seem?”

Under a Dragon Moon, by Wemyss (also here) NR
Harry/Draco, R, novel-length. Summary: “The sequel to the AT-housed Gate of Ivory, Gate of Horn. In the days after the death of Albus Dumbledore, Harry and Draco are once more dreaming the same, possibly precognitive dreams. What is dreamt and what is real is no longer certain, the times are out of joint, and the world waits upon their choices, upon the consequences of their dreams. Harry/Draco, NC-17, ~19500 words. Summary: Starting over doesn’t always mean from scratch. Which is probably a good thing when something sinister is lurking around the corner. Fully DH-compliant.

Gen; PG-13, post-war; discontinued WIP. Summary: Sequel to And All Was Right With the World. Two years after that fateful hospital visit, the most famous prisoner of Azkaban suddenly disappears. Reluctant Auror Draco Malfoy is caught in a whirlwind of murder, mystery and bureaucracy as he rushes to prevent disaster. Memories are dug up, secrets are revealed, and skeletons burst out of their closets as the past comes back to haunt the victors of a bloody and bitter war.

NC-17, discontinued WIP. Summary: “Mr. Ronald B. Weasley, age 20, was found dead in room 13 of the Leaky Cauldron Thursday October 31st, under circumstances Aurors are calling ’suspicious.’ Eight suspects are being held for questioning in connection to the crime…”

You Must Remember, by bonibaru ** NR
R, discontinued WIP. Summary: “After Voldemort’s defeat, Harry hides himself quietly away in the luxury hotel he owns with Remus. But then a visitor from the past delivers a dangerous object - and a mystery - into Harry’s hands.” The anonymous person who pointed me to this fic said that it has a Casablanca-like mystery theme going.
