Themed list: Defeat Voldie 101

Filed Under HP themed lists |

This is a very spoilery list. Even the fact that a fic is put here may be a spoiler. Be warned! Also, the majority of the fics here were written before DH, understandably. So don’t expect lots of DH-compliant fics.

I’d like to express my gratitude to Dita P for her help in collecting fics for this list! Thank you, dear!

RULES

What I take:

- Since Voldemort is defeated in every third Harry fic, only the fics that show really original ways of defeating Voldemort are accepted. It means that even if something may be considered original within a certain fic but similar things were done in Harry fiction several (many) times, I won’t accept it.
- The way of killing/defeating Voldemort must be shown in a very detailed way, either with a deep theoretical base or showing us the spell/potion/combat tactics development and how it works, or both.

King Draco’s code, or What I don’t take:

- no fairy tale or some-other-(non-Harry)-verse AU fics. But I’ll take an AU fic of “Severitus’ type”, of “Harry’s parents survived” type, etc. In other words, I’ll accept AUs that don’t incorporate strange details in Harry-verse.
- no fics where the defeat of Voldemort is mentioned in passing. If we don’t see how it was done in detail, the fic doesn’t qualify.
- no fics where the means of destroying Voldemort look like Deus ex machina. As in, Harry and his new friend Miranda find a super-hyper-powerful sword/ amulet/ ring/ book and voila, all the problems are solved. I’m well acquainted with the ways the minds of many young fanfic writers from FF net work, i.e. without any consideration of canon but with the wildest flights of fantasy. So I will take such a fic only if it’s exceptionally well-written and plausible. And not if the author in their unrestrained fancy made up something so original that it better be called ridiculous.
- here are the sub-types of the scenario that aren’t considered original:
a) the duel Harry vs Voldemort, unless the spells Harry uses are developed by the author with great creativity and in the tiniest details.
b) the same about Harry duelling/ spellcasting with somebody else’s help, unless we can see the detailed development of an original spell.
c) Occlumency/Legilimency, unless the author shows us the mechanics in a very detailed way, or if there are some unusual aspects of it involved.
d) bonds that amplify the combatants’ power (as in, Snape and Harry (Draco and Harry etc) form a soul/ mind/ blood bond that allows them to combine their powers to defeat Voldemort, etc.).
e) since defeating Voldemort “Muggle way” is a rather frequent plot, I’ll accept only the fics where this way is very well-grounded and well-written or where it’s really unusual.
f) I’m not taking any more fics where Voldemort is defeated in a ridiculous way. There are two or three of them here, and that’s quite enough for me.
- no possession scenarios even if the way Voldemort is killed is original. They all go to the possession list.
- no time-travel scenarios where somebody goes back in time to undo or change something to help defeating Voldemort; they all go to the time-travel list.
- no WIPs that have only a chapter or two written.
- do not bring fics you haven’t read;
- do not bring fics you didn’t like;
- do me a courtesy, please, do not leave only a link. I’d appreciate the following info: author, title, pairing, rating, WIP status; how Voldemort is defeated and why it’s original.

Fics are sorted by TITLE in alphabetical order (articles excluded, i.e. A Thousand Beautiful Things is placed under ‘T’).

These are NOT my recs; it’s just a collection of thematic links.

Special marks:

Arcadia / Gloria, by Abaddon (nothingbutfic) #
Harry/Draco; PG-13/R, short. Grey on grey, highlight to read: Harry puts on a trilby, and enters a hut. He emerges 65 minutes later, “a little shaky and a little scuffed around the edges”. That’s it. It’s not about battle tactics at all, just a novel take on the inevitable “final battle” scene.

The Balance of Power trilogy, by KrysRoz (montana_dan)
PG; gen with some het background pairing; novel-length. The arc consists of 4 stories: Harry Potter and the Slytherin Connection, Harry Potter and the Unexpected Inheiritance, Harry Potter and the Trelawney Prophesy and the sequel to the trilogy, Harry Potter and Salazar’s Talisman. Summary story 1: “It’s Harry’s fifth year and he’s finally able to escape the Dursleys only to find that Voldemort has other plans. After numberous failed attempts to rid himself of the Gryffindor brat, Lord Voldemort now knows he must change tactics. But how does a Dark Lord convince a fifteen-year-old boy, orphaned by his own hand, to join him? Give him what he’s always wanted, of course. Read on to discover how Voldemort manipulates Harry’s life for three years to achieve the balance of power and reclaim the wizarding for his own.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Voldemort dies (in book 3) to save Harry.

Beneath You, by Cinnamon (starflowers) #
Harry/Draco; R; novel-length. Summary: “Draco had no idea that the repercussions of stealing Potter’s journal and shoving it down the back of his trousers would be so extreme. Featuring nefarious plots, the mating rituals of Slytherins, double-crossing spells, Ron/Pansy, and Draco/Harry.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: In a moment of desperation, Voldemort is killed the muggle way, doused with petrol and set on fire. The author explains how and why it could be done.

Biology, by ShivaniBlue
Harry/Blaise; R, novel-length. Summary: “It wasn’t just power and ability that Tom Riddle transferred to Harry that night. He made him the son he never had, and that changes everything.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Harry sort of gives Voldemort the Dementor’s Kiss.

A Boy, Lost, by Tangledhair NR
Harry/Draco; R, novel-length. Summary: “Things are heating up with the Order, and Harry is growing in power. Harry starts a dangerous romance with Malfoy just so he can feel like a “real” teenage boy.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: The battle scene goes on for a couple chapters, and Harry finally defeats Voldemort by possessing a Dementor and sucking out his soul, and then killing his body with Avada Kedavra.

Caged, by Sparrowhawk #
Snape/Harry; NC-17; novella. Grey on grey, highlight to read: Voldemort is trapped in the body of a small bird (the fic was put on the possession list as an exception) and closed in a hidden house with Snape and Harry. They can’t just kill the bird because he will use one of their bodies instead. Get to know what they do by reading the fic.

Care Of Magical Creatures, by Arsenic Jade (or here) ##
Remus/Hermione/Snape (Hermione/Harry/Ron, Ginny/Tonks), NC-17; novel-length. Summary: “Hermione stumbles onto her path.” Although the fic is post-war, in ch.1 the author describes in detail what spell was used to kill Voldemort and how it was developed.

A Choriambic Progression, by Mairead Triste and Aristide ##
Snape/Harry; NC-17; novel-length. Grey on grey, highlight to read: Harry has Merlin’s Gift that allows him to connect his magic to the Earth and drain power from it. There’s a really original description of Harry’s battle with Voldemort and the Death Eaters.

Clay, by Kass (kassrachel) (or here) #
Snape/Harry; R; one-shot. Summary: “In which the fight against You-Know-Who continues. And there is mysticism. And eventually shagging.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Ancient Hebrew mysticism combined with modern magic. Very creative, very detailed.

Containment, by Florahart #
Snape/Harry; NC-17, 2 chapters. Grey on grey, highlight to read: Nuclear blast is the way.

Contemporary Magical Innovations, by H. Granger, by Kai / Kali (kaiz) (or here) #
Snape/Harry; PG-13; novellette. Summary: “The difference between History and What Really Happened.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: The action takes place several years after Voldemort was defeated. In this story Harry and Snape fight the remaining Death Eaters. The way they do it is original, but the most creative is the device the author uses to tell us the story.

Corruption sequence: Corruption, Distortion, Alteration, by Beren (beren_writes) #
Harry/Draco; NC-17; novella. Summary: “Voldemort has captured Harry and for his own twisted reasons has chosen not to kill him outright. Revenge in the Dark Lord’s mind requires a fate worse than death and Harry is about to find out what that is.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Harry was transformed (forcibly, as Voldemort’s idea of revenge) into an entity of mixed dark creatures (werewolf, vampire, banshee, etc.) and he killed Voldemort by draining him of his blood and wrenching his heart out of his chest.

Crumbling Pedestal, by ShivaniBlue (or here)
Harry/Snape; NC-17, novel-length. Summary: “[AU] When Voldemort tries to force Harry to duel in the graveyard at the conclusion of the Tri-Wizard Tournament, things take an entirely different direction as Fate steps in to meddle.” Grey on grey ‘cos contains huge spoilers: Voldemort has been kept alive after Halloween 1981 because he had poured part of his soul into the diary. When the diary was destroyed, Voldemort remained half-souled. Heru (Harry, read to learn how he aquired this name) then proceeds to bleed Voldemort to rid him of Harry’s blood. Except that Harry’s blood, although it was poisoning Voldemort, was also helping him to keep himself and his magic together. So then Heru simply takes Voldemort’s magic away, in effect killing him, as he only has half a soul.

Crumpets Aren’t My Style, by Marz1 NR
HP/SG1 crossover, PG-13, novel-length. “General O’Neill is sent on a nice relaxing dipolmatic mission in the U.K. Of course there’s bound to be trouble when he runs into a murderous cult called the Death Eaters, who’ve some how gotten their hands on alien technology.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Voldemort is teleported into space and blown to bits with a nuclear bomb.

A Disturbing Development, by sheepybunbuns #
Harry/various; NC-17; one-shot, humour. Summary: “Harry Potter tells the story of an unwelcome connection between him and Voldemort, and how it helped in Voldemort s demise.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: The scar link between Harry and Voldemort opens during sex and works both ways. Harry uses it.

Draco Malfoy and the Chamber of Passions, by Amory (web archive link) NR
Harry/Draco; Lucius/Draco; NC-17; novel-length. Grey on grey, highlight to read: Voldemort is killed by a doxy-venom type potion that is activated by the pure passion Harry and Draco have together and that “pure love” burns Voldie to a crisp. The power of love and some poison, each taken separately, wouldn’t qualify, but this combination is really bizarre.

Draco Malfoy and the Heart of Slytherin (PG-13), by Saber ShadowKitten #
Harry/Draco; PG-13, novel-length. Summary: “At the heart of every Slytherin…” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Instead of describing the way of killing Voldemort, I’ll send you to the chapter where it happens. Don’t forget to start reading from the beginning, though.

Elegy by Mariner (marinarusalka) #
Implied Sirius/Remus in the past; Remus/James; NC-17; short. Summary: “Sometimes, you just need somebody who really understands.” Challenges: “8. AU: it wasn’t James who died protecting Harry; 7. James wouldn’t ever cheat on Lily… or would he? and 19. a mission for the Order goes badly wrong.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: It’s Sirius who kills Voldemort.

Falling into You, by Starkindler (nufaciel)
Harry/Lucius; Harry/Snape; Harry/Lucius/Snape; NC-17, novel-length. Grey on grey, highlight to read: There’s an original potion used to defeat Voldemort, complete with details on how to make it and what it’s used for defeating him.

Hall of the Mountain Kings, by Tara Tory ##
Snape/Harry; R; novella. Summary: “It’s another Snape saves Harry from the Dursleys story but goes in another direction almost at once. Voldemort gets killed somewhere in the middle. Ha. Serves him right.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Earth Magic, very detailed and plausible.
Sequel: Hall of the Mountain Kings: The Holly and the Ivy (PG).

Happy Father’s Day, Harry Potter! by cragarrows
PG-13; Pre-OotP; One-shot; “Summary: Harry learns that he is the last surviving Heir of Griffyndor, and that Prophecy says an Heir of Griffyndor will destroy Voldemort. This is why Voldemort wants Harry dead. Harry has a cunning plan to exploit Voldemort’s faith in the Prophecy — or did Dumbledore think of it first?” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Harry’s plan involves producing hundreds of offspring through Muggle sperm banks, causing Voldemort to spread thin his resources.

Harry Potter & The Daughter of Malfoy, by Fyre (fyrie) #
Gen; PG-13; chaptered fic; parody, MPreg. Summary: “Lucius Malfoy is a clumsy git. A pregnancy potion made by Snape for Malfoy’s wife ends up spilt on our seventeen year old hero. Harry Potter ends up knocked up. He’s really not best pleased. After all, how is he meant to save the world if he has to go on maternity leave?” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Voldemort is defeated by bitch-slapping.

Harry Potter and the Improbable Uses of Chaos Theory, by debchan (link lost! Help!)
PG-13, one-shot. Crossover with Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. Grey on grey, highlight to read: Voldemort is defeated by headology and Nanny Ogg’s self-interest.

Harry Potter and the Jealous Husband, Lord Voldemort and the Shrewish Spouse, Lord Voldemort and the IllFated Dinner Party, by Lady K. d’Azrael (or here and here) #
Harry/Voldemort; PG-13. Humour; novella-length. Summary: “Voldemort has problems: The Death Eaters are incompetent, his underpants have turned a funny colour in the wash and he suspects his husband still has a thing for his ex…” Quote: “Harry had survived the final battle because Voldemort had a mind to keep him as a catamite. Somehow Harry had gotten revenge in a bizarre and spectacular way by becoming a nag.” A fate far worse than death for Voldemort? Grey on grey, highlight to read: Being domesticated, nagged & humiliated by his (”mad as a bag of wire hangers”) spouse Harry. This fic is also on the “Voldemort won” list. No, I don’t have split personality. It does fit in both.

Harry Potter and the Polka Dot Plague by Mariner (marinarusalka) (or here) #
Gen; PG; chaptered novella. Summary: “Harry Potter discovers why polka dots are evil. Severus Snape discovers why it’s a bad idea to forge your medical records. Lucius Malfoy discovers why you shouldn’t give surprise gifts to your boss.” Harry Potter’s got the magical Skittles, the disease that messes with wizards’ magic. Further Grey on grey: He infects Snape ‘cos he hasn’t been immunized. But Voldemort hasn’t been either, so he gets sick and dies.

I Have a Rendezvous with Death, by Paracelsus NR
Gen; PG, novella. Summary: “How is it that you - a skinny boy with no extraordinary magical talent - managed to defeat the greatest wizard of all time?” (CoS) Through careful advance preparation, that’s how… and by deceiving those he loved. This prequel to And Miles to Go Before I Sleep is set four years post-Hogwarts.” Details Grey on grey: Harry faces down Voldemort in a warded circle surrounded by Death Eaters; Voldemort tries to AK Harry, but is unsuccessful… because he’s made himself a “flak jacket” of basilisk hide, and while the curse bounces back onto Voldemort, Voldemort tries to escape his body again, but can’t because Harry’s enlisted Moaning Myrtle to help contain Voldemort’s incorporeal body. And much more. Read to find out.

Induction, by ShivaniBlue (grazhir) (or here) #
Harry/Snape; R/NC-17, depends on where you read it; novel-length. Mindfuck; dubious consent. Summary: “A perhaps disturbing look at what one bitter man’s obsession could lead to, and the unexpected results - but for whom?” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Harry uses Legilimency to kill Voldemort, but it’s more complicated than just that, and the process is described in many details.

The Istfy’s Curse, by Ptyx
Snape/Harry; NC-17. Summary: “Voldemort has found an Egyptian curse to transform Harry Potter into his sexual slave. Snape is assigned a difficult mission. (Bond fic. Mild BDSM.)” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Harry defeats Voldemort seducing him! Intrigued? Read to find out how it works!

The Last Dance, by Sushi (wikdsushi) (or here) #
Snape/Harry; NC-17; novella. Summary: “Once upon a time, there was a boy named Harry Potter. He died…” Grey on grey, highlight to read: To kill Voldemort, Harry has to die. But Snape can’t put up with his death. So he resurrects his lover. But Voldemort is resurrected too. To kill Voldemort…

Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent, by Cluegirl (or here) ##
Harry/Snape, Harry/Lucius, Harry/Pansy, Harry/Other; NC-17; novella. Warnings: BDSM, Violence, Slavery, Breathplay, Bloodplay, Character Death. I really don’t want to describe the way Harry finds to kill Voldemort. Even the fact that I’m putting this fic here is a huge spoiler. Read it, then you’ll find it out.

Like Them, by Lunalelle #
Hermione/Voldemort; R, novella. Summary: The last battle with a twist - “Harry pointed his wand down at the Dark Lord.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Voldemort is stripped of his magic and left to live as a Muggle.

The Lodger, by Mad Martha ##
Harry/Draco; PG-13, chaptered novella. Summary: “Years after Voldemort’s death and the end of the war, a lonely and alienated Harry Potter decides to take in a lodger. The result isn’t quite what he anticipated. He has more in common with his new housemate than he expected, and together they learn to look life and the wizarding world - in the face again.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Dumbledore concocts a giant multiperson ritual… which is all just a massive distraction for Harry to shoot him with a gun. So, for the sake of the distraction tactics, let it be here. “It was just a distraction. The spell didn’t do anything, it just looked like it might. It made Voldemort concentrate on the spell instead of one person in particular.” You can find more details in ch.3.

The Long Road Home, by Flamata NR
Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione; PG-13, novel-length. Summary: “Harry, Ron and Hermione travel to a different dimension in order to find a way to destroy thehorcruxes. They disguise themselves as teachers at Hogwarts, whereNeville is the boy who lived and Lily and James are still alive.” Spoiler ahead, highlight to read: Harry destroys the last Horcrux (himself) by allowing himself to be kissed by a Dementor. He kills Voldemort by catching a killing curse with an incorporeal hand (the result of reaching into the afterlife to retrieve his own soul) and inserting said hand directly into Voldemort.

The Maddest House, by Busaikko (link to the tag; you’ll have to scroll) ##
Sirius/Remus; NC-17, 17 parts, complete. AU, HBP-compliant. Summary: “In the aftermath of Halloween 1981, Sirius Black finds himself in a safe house with baby Harry.” It’s very complicated, but the way Voldemort is killed here is like I never saw anywhere else.

Magpie, by AbstractConcept (the_con_cept) #
Snape/Harry; PG-13, one-shot. Sequel to End of the World (or here), which you should read first. Summary: “Harry watches over himself, but he isn’t the only one.”Grey on grey, highlight to read: Voldemort took away Harry’s magic. Harry steals his, together with his life, in turn.

The Man Who Lived, by Beth H. (bethbethbeth) #
Gen; PG-13; short. Grey on grey, highlight to read: Snape is about to be Avada Kedavra’d by Voldemort, only Dumbledore stands in front of him and reflects the curse back onto Voldemort. That’s not what one would call unique, but the way it’s written is, and some details are, too, particularly the very last line.

Mandala-Verse, by Ptyx #
Harry/Snape; NC-17, long. In the story Winter Thunder, Voldemort is defeated — grey on grey, highlight to read: by a potion based on a Navajo ceremony: he drinks a Navajo potion whose effect is that every time he uses his magic in a dark way, he loses more power. He becomes a Squib when he tries to AK Neville Longbottom. Don’t forget to read the whole Mandala-verse and not only the related story.

The Mathematician’s Premise, by Vasaris, the Fuzzy Dragon
Snape/Harry, R, short. Summary: Ten years after the defeat of Voldemort, Severus Snape needs to bring Harry Potter back to Hogwarts. One would think it would be easier. Preslash.

Merry Christmas, Voldemort!, by Alaranth-88
G; gen; humour; short. Summary: “Voldemort awakens one morning to find - a package? What is it? Who sent it? And what does it mean for the most feared Dark Lord in the World?” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Harry gives Voldemort this box that follows him around and plays Darth Vader’s theme then Can’t Stop the Music whenever anyone tries to destroy it.

A Moment in Time, by the Shadow Bandit
Harry/Draco; R; novel-length; MPreg. Summary: “AU: During his seventh year, Harry learns that his life can change forever in a single moment in time.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Voldemort is destroyed by Harry changing into his Animagus form, a phoenix, and embracing Voldemort as he goes through his burning cycle.

Möbius, by Mandy (geneticallydead) (or here; adult-locked post in snape_potter) ##
Harry/Snape; NC-17, four-chapter novella. Post-HBP. Summary: “Ten years after the fall of Voldermort, Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts, celebrated as the saviour of the wizarding world. In the history books, Harry Potter stood over the hollow corpse of Lord Voldermort, vibrant and triumphant, and incinerated that withered old body to the depths of hell. The real truth was, Severus Snape killed Voldermort. Not Harry Potter.” It’s more complicated than that; read to find out.

More Than Words (Or, Four Announcements and One Defining Moment. Maybe Two), by treewishes
Snape/Harry implied, PG, one-shot. Team Angst entry in Snarry Games. Summary: “No one should have to make choices like that. Ever.”

A Mug of Warm Milk, by Molly Morrison
Gen; K, ficlet, humour. Summary: “Harry develops powerful new abilities that surprise even Dumbledore. And what does a mug of warm milk have to do with anything?”

A Necessary Evil, by Kai (kaiz) (or here) ##
Snape/Harry, also implied Harry/Draco, Snape/Lucius, some Snape/Voldemort; NC-17, novella. MPreg. Summary: “After the Final Battle, Albus is pregnant (!) and Lord Voldemort is almost-dead yet again.” The very idea of Voldemort inhabiting Albus’ body after he “was killed” lets me put it here.

Nemo Me Impune Lacessit, by Priestess of Avalon (Grey-Eyed Athena at ffnet) NR
Gen, PG-13; novel-length. Summary: “Voldemort wants Draco as a Death Eater, but Lucius disagrees, wanting his son’s first loyalty to be to him. They then spend Draco’s entire fifth year fighting to control his future. A very Slytherin-heavy fic.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Voldemort is defeated by means of vampirism.

Night-blooming Heartsease, by Julad ##
Snape/Neville; R; novella. Prequel to Transfigurations (Harry/Draco; NC-17, novel-length), by Resonant. Dementors fight at the side of Dark, and to kill them Neville and Snape develop a special potion, based on the Night-blooming Heartsease. There’s more to it then that, but you’ll find it out when reading the fic.

The Nightmare Before Bedtime, by Shivani / grazhir (or at FFN) NR
Harry/OC, PG-13. Complete in 4 chapters. Summary: “In which the author parodies herself in a self-insertion masterpiece after spending too much time reading over at Live Journal’s babb_chronicles, deleterius, and pottersues.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: The main character (not Harry) uses one of “the most horrifying and devastating weapons known to man” — that is to say, Voldemort is defeated thanks to the soul-sucking qualities of Muzak and a 100-floor elevator ride.

No Place Like, by Tara Tory ##
Snape/Harry; R; novella. Summary: “Snape gets to deal with one of the least magical places on earth when Voldemort’s clever plan takes a wrong turn. Kansas, it turns out, handles magic pretty well.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: There’s an urn of Fesarius that draws magic into itself, magical cyclone and many other interesting things.

Once More With Feeling, by Obsessed1#
Harry/Snape; R; short. At the SS/HP Fuh-Q Fest. For the password join kardasi-security y!group. Summary: “Have you ever had the feeling you’ve done something before? Have you ever had the feeling you’ve done something before? Have you ever had the feeling you’ve done something before?” Grey on grey, highlight to read: The author freezes Voldemort in time: Harry and Severus got into a time-loop until they figure a way to kill him.

Oubliette, by Kate Bolin #
Gen; PG-ish; short. Grey on grey ‘cos spoils everything: The implication is that Harry Portkeyed himself and Voldemort to a room in Hogwarts with no doors, then broke the Portkey and broke his wand so that he and Voldemort would be imprisoned there forever (since there’s no Apparation at Hogwarts).

Pending, by Seraphtrevs (or here, fewer chapters) NR
Harry/Draco; R; humour/parody; MPreg; WIP. Summary: Voldie decides he needs an heir, but is unable to have one. He decides the child of his most powerful nemesis would serve quite nicely, with Draco as the “brood mare,” so to speak. Draco is Not Pleased when he discovers the plot. There’s karaoke, drunken insanity, and sex in inappropriate places - what more could you want? Grey on grey, highlight to read: Voldemort ends up electrocuting himself while singing karaoke. NB: I’m putting it here on people’s insistence but no way I’ll add another ridiculous version of V’s death.

Plan B, by gehayi
Gen; PG, short. Summary: “Tom manages to find a way of defeating Harry that Voldemort never thought of.”

Precious, by Lady Vader
Harry/Draco; R, short. Warnings: Character Death, lots of it… Just not our fave two characters. Summary: “On the battlefield, surrounded by the death toll of the war, Harry seems to be the only survivor.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: It’s mix of the potion, curse and altered Animagus form.

The Power Snivellus Knows Not, by Nonjon
Gen, R. One-Shot, parody. Summary: “Harry and Tonks discover the power to overcome the most horrible evil ever to grace Hogwarts halls. And Voldemort too.”

new Quantum Leap, by Scoradh (on the BB site, in one file with art; or on LJ, chaptered) #
Harry/Draco, R, novel-length, AU. Summary: In a multiverse of endless possibilities, everything we imagine exists somewhere. The bad choices we didn’t make, the good choices we should have made and, most of all, the choices we wish we’d made. This is a story about the choices that change the world.

Requiem, by Lux (escapisms) #
Some Snape/Harry but I’d call it gen; R, war-fic; dark, novella. Summary: “It was supposed to be over now. That’s the way it always went in the stories. The Good Side won and now the story ended because nothing mattered after that, everything was perfect after that. But it wasn’t.” The way of killing Voldemort in this fic isn’t most original, but what happens right after is. I’ve never read anything like this.

Resolution’s Ease, by Nimori (or here) #
Harry/Voldemort, Harry/Snape; PG, one-shot. Summary: “No war ends in complete victory. Compromises must be made among the survivors.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: After the long and hard war a resolution was found: Harry should marry Voldemort, and then peace will reign. Harry/Voldemort marriage isn’t a unique plot, but this is the only fic where I’ve seen it used specifically to end the war.

The Return of the Prodigal, by ClothoLachesisAtropo / Lachesis #
Snape/Harry; R; novel-length. I’m putting it here as an exception because, although it’s a time-travel fic, the travel isn’t used to send a hero in the past so that he undoes/changes something there. Grey on grey, highlight to read: In this fic adult Harry is glamoured as his young self to deceive Voldemort and lower his defences, and this idea is original.

Ruses, by Empress of the Eclipse (lycoris)
Harry/Draco, some Lucius/Harry; R; novel-length (or is it still WIP?). Summary: “After his father challenges him, Draco ends up inviting Harry to his house for the summer. But what SHOULD have been a fairly harmless visit goes horribly wrong and leads to tragedy.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Harry throws a basket of friendly Runespoors at Voldemort, ordering them to bite him all at once.

S is for Slytherin: the Master, by Draegyn (or here) #
Harry/Snape; PG; one-shot; follows H is for Helga, S is for Slytherin: the Apprentice, which you should read first for the third to make sense. Grey on grey, highlight to read: Voldemort is enthralled to Harry, and then transfigured into a house-elf.

Saving the World, by Cruise Director #
Snape/Lupin; NC-17, short. Summary: “Before the world ends, Snape has one more thing to prove to himself and Lupin.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Voldemort is killed with a giant comet.

Scratch, by Aucta Sinistra (or here) #
Snape/Harry; NC-17, novella. Grey on grey, highlight to read: Voldemort is killed by a spell that Harry and Severus develop, Inanoterrapotens, which drains Voldemort from his magic and lets it pass through Harry into the ground.
Sequels: The Holly and the Ivy, This Thing of Darkness.

Shadow of our Forefathers, by HasaiDreamer #
Harry/Snape, PG-13, novelette. Part of Snarry Games, Team Angst. Summary: “Severus Snape rejoins the Order of the Phoenix after five months at Voldemort’s side - only to discover that the Order is not quite as he left it, Harry Potter is no longer the naïve boy Snape knew, and the final battle will not be the one either man expects.”

Slowly, But Exceeding Fine, by Ellen Fremedon (also at the Thin Line; search by author or title) ##
Snape/Sirius; NC-17; long novella. Summary: “How to kill a dementor, live under a curse, and let go of an old grudge. Written for the SS Fuh-q Fest, Wave 1, Scenario 140: Snape has a personal health problem he wants to keep quiet.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: The author uses elements of Scandinavian mythology. Snape and Black travel to the Giants to acquire a sampo fragment (old artefact the history of which is told in detail in the fic), with the help of which they create very strong weather magic.

Spellbound, by DJin7
Harry/Snape; NC-17, one-shot. Grey on grey, highlight to read: No-one tried to kill Voldie, it somehow happened. It is not explained why Voldemort died, only the activities that lead to it and speculations.

A Taste of Liberty, by Lamardeuse #
Snape/Harry; NC-17; AU: QaF x-over; novel-length. Although it’s more of a QaF-verse most of the time, I’m putting it here because –Grey on grey, highlight to read: for defeating Voldemort the guys use dream magic, the origin of is more HP (relatively speaking).

A Thousand Beautiful Things, by Duinn Fionn (geoviki) ##
Harry/Draco; R; novel-length. Summary: “Draco Malfoy struggles with changed fortunes, shifted alliances, an ugly war, and an unusual spell, with the help of a concerned professor, an insightful house-elf, and an unexpected Gryffindor friend.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: The fighters for the side of the Light all Polyjuice themselves into Harry to confuse the Death Eaters in a battle. They write numbers on their stomachs, for identification purposes in case they get injured. In the end, it’s Dumbledore Polyjuiced as Harry who kills the Dark Lord, because prophecies are formal like this.
Sequel: Delicate Sound of Thunder.

To the Victor, by simmysim #
Harry/Draco/Ron; NC-17, one-shot. Summary: Voldemort makes a last ditch at buying Harry’s mercy. Not quite an original way to defeat V but somehow I think it fits here.

‘Twas Brillig, by mary_re
Gen; PG-13; short. Summary: “Based on The Jabberwocky, a poem by Lewis Carroll. For the Classic Canon Challenge.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Voldemort’s Avada Kedavra is reflected off of the Gryffindor sword that Harry draws out of his mind, bouncing back to hit him.

Underwater Light, by Maya (mistful) #
Harry/Draco; R, novel-length. Summary: “Featuring an extremely depressed Harry, in a war-torn wizarding world, about to get the shock of his life when he discovers that Draco Malfoy is slightly more important to him than he would have ever guessed. Including a very odd friendship, lots of angst, suspicions, conflicted loyalties, clueless Ron, on-the-warpath Hermione and two very messed-up boys.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Harry Accios an entire wall to him and buries V underneath it.

Unnatural, by Lexin and Tidmag (or here) #
Harry/Snape; NC-17, novella. Summary: “Far far away in an alternate universe, hermaphrodite Harry Potter gets into trouble. That’s not ordinary trouble, but Trouble.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: Voldemort is removed from the world by being sucked down a vortex when he tries to call the Elder Gods and Harry dismisses them.

Victory Without Battle, by keikokin (requires registration)
Harry/Lucius; NC-17, one-shot. Summary: “TSS Contest #3 Winner!! Harry is captured. Lucius reveals himself as a spy and portkeys Harry away from a Death Eater meeting. A relationship ensues.” Grey on grey, highlight to read: By saving Harry from Death Eaters, Lucius Malfoy calls forth a new prophecy, and by fulfilling its conditions Harry and him make Voldemort crumble to dust.

Welcome to Wherever You Are, by Furiosity (or here) #
Harry/Draco, R, novelette. Warning(s): Gore. Summary: It surprises everyone but Draco Malfoy when he destroys Voldemort. As time goes on and the world doesn’t stop, Harry begins to realise that maybe he’s in for a few surprises himself. Features an unhealthy obsession with a famous TV line, a haunted house and too many drunk people..

Hi, I’m the author of a fic called “Manoir Acajou” that’s listed in two of your theme lists. I’m curious to know who recced or sent it to you, primarily as no-one’s commented to tell me it was recced or read, and I’ve been thinking that no one really read it at all!

    Hi Serpenscript,

I’m sorry to say that I can’t answer this question. The searches for the lists were conducted a long time ago and comments since have been disabled on my LJ. As for the absence of comments, well, it’s a sad reality we live in :/ Only one of 30 (if no more) people that read a story leave a comment on it.
