Themed list: bonds
Posted on November 12, 2007
Filed Under HP themed lists |
The theme is bonds in Harry fiction, for Accioslash as a thank you gift for my paid LJ time and just because she’s a wonder.
The list itself is only partly my work. I thank: sarahna2, Uris whose Harry Potter/Severus Snape forced bonding list I used, and lots of thanks to Trax Knight who, in her turn, gives credits to Alicia & Carawen Javolia. Also hearty thanks to allzugern for the help with checking for broken links!
What I take:
Fics with any sort of bond: naturally developed, accidental, forced, consensual, etc. Under consensual I mean that both parties had agreed to do it before they were bound; natural bond kind of grows on its own. Accidental means that they didn’t intend to bond at all or meant to create a bond with somebody else but as a result the bonding occurred (thanks to a Potions accident, a spell or a joke gone awry and so on). Forced is if one (or both) of the bound had to enter it against their will. It could be to save Harry from Voldemort, to give him more power, anything else. Also bonds can be marital, blood bonds, soul/heart bonds, and other kinds.
What won’t do:
- no marriage fics (or forced marriage fics) if there’s no bond! If marriage/wedding or magical contracts are mentioned but we don’t see the bond act, the fic doesn’t fit here, like, for example, Titti’s La Vita Nova; Harry/Snape; NC-17. It’s another theme and such stories go to the list of same-sex marriage fics.
- no fics where the couple is married and said to be bound, but all it means is that they can’t be divorced. I won’t count it as a bonding fic, I will think it’s a marriage fic.
- no fics where bonding is mentioned but we don’t see it act, or where it doesn’t play any special part.
- no love potions or spell accidents and such if their effect is temporary or if it doesn’t create a special *bond*.
- no WIPs that have only a chapter or two written;
- no drabbles;
- do not bring fics you haven’t read;
- do not bring fics you didn’t like;
- do not bring fics the authors of which show no grammar or spelling skills even if you liked them;
- do me a courtesy, please, do not leave only a link. I’d be really grateful if you tell me (besides the title and author) whether the fic is a WIP or completed, what the pairings and the rating are, and what kind of bond it is and who’s bound.
The stories are sorted in alphabetical order by TITLE (excluding articles, i.e. The Return of the Prodigal, for example, goes under ‘R’).
Special marks:
# - liked
## - loved
NR - have not read
new - added in the last month or so
These are NOT my recs; it’s just a themed listing.

Snape/Harry, NC-17, novella. Summary: Haunted by secrets, guilt, and a spectre, Harry searches for answers and a decent shag; plagued by Potter’s very presence, Severus finds himself investigating more than one subject with which he’s only passingly familiar. For both wizards, metaphysical philosophy is a bitch—and not the only one they have in common. Warnings: For (mentions of) character death and mild violence. Bond between Harry and Snape.

Or will they find the way to deal with uncontrollable lust, while hiding it from the school, significant others, and Deatheaters?” Accidental, Temporary Passion/Lust Bond. Accidental because Draco intends the fidelity/lust potion for someone else and Crabbe/Goyle pour it on Hermione as a prank, not knowing the consequences. So it’s a Love Potion that leads to a bond.

Otherwise I will be reminded to do so a hundred times anyway.

Pardon Me?, by Queen of the Castle (jessicaqueen)
Harry/Snape, PG-13, short. Response to the thematic_hp first round forced marriage or bonding challenge, prompt #6: Post-war. Harry has killed off Voldie, and the ministry is afraid of his power, concerned he’s unstable and demands he bond with someone who can control his power or enable him to do so. Harry is very uninterested in the idea and fights it. The Ministry casts a spell because whoever he bonds with must have complementary magic. The complement is Snape who is sitting in Azkaban, for murder. They offer Snape a deal if he will do it, and pretty much force Harry to do it. Bonus if it’s Umbridge who finds the complement spell.
