Themed list: childhood of canon characters

Filed Under HP themed lists |
This list is a part of the “Family Life arc”. Childhood in HP fiction. Part 1: the childhood of canon characters.
My hearty thanks to savannahdreamer for her help with coding and to kyuuketsukirui for the help with transferring the list to my site! Also huge thanks to Jetamors whose Page o’ Gen Recs I used in search of fics for this list and which everybody should bookmark and visit regularly!
What I take:
I’m interested in how childhood is shown in Harry fiction, that’s why I’m limiting the age of characters. Here I take the fics where:
- we can see the childhood of a canon character (Harry, Snape, Dumbledore, etc), only pre-Hogwarts years;
- the fics can be AU or not, gen or not. If it’s chan (fics featuring sex between an adult and a minor), they will qualify only if the kid is under the age of 11 (doesn’t attend Hogwarts yet);
- fics that are partly about pre-Hogwarts and partly about Hogwarts years of a character are OK;
- fics where characters are magically turned to their younger selves under the age of 11 (Potions accidents, spells gone awry, wrong time travel, something else).
Won’t do:
- if a canon character’s childhood is mentioned but the fic isn’t about it, or is about another character. For example, Best Wishes, by _hannelore.
- fics with flashbacks/recollections of somebody’s childhood (if the fic isn’t written for their sake);
- fics where characters are already attending Hogwarts; in the case of chan fics, if the minor is called ‘kid’, it’s not enough;
- fics with children who are original characters.
- Important: as I haven’t decided where to put epilogue generation fics, to the “Childhood of canon characters” or to “Canon characters have children”, I’m not taking them at all so far!
- no WIPs that have only a chapter or two written;
- no drabbles;
- do not bring fics you haven’t read;
- do not bring fics you didn’t like;
- do not bring fics the authors of which show no grammar or spelling skill even if you liked them;
- do me a courtesy, please, do not leave only a link. I’d be really grateful if you tell me (besides the title and author) whether the fic is a WIP or completed, what the pairings and the rating are, and whose childhood it’s about.
Fics are sorted in alphabetical order by TITLE (articles excluded, i.e. The Doll Army is placed under ‘D’.)
Warning: Not all of these fics are gen, there are chan fics, too (featuring sex with underage characters). Pay attention to the fic info! There will be bold chan there, so avoid them if you don’t like them.
Special marks:
# - liked
## - loved
NR - have not read
new - added in the last month or so
The character whose childhood the fic is about, is first thing in the info about the fic, bolded.
There are three ways of showing childhood in these fics:
a) If it’s a ‘normal’ childhood study, that is, the author supposes what might have happened when a certain character was young, putting the events of his/her fic in the known background. For such fics there’s no special mark on the list;
b) AU, when the author changes the known canon background (Sirius is out of prison when Harry is two; Snape is Harry’s father; baby Harry is adopted by Lucius Malfoy, etc. In this case there’s a bold AU mark in the fic info;
c) magically changed age fics (potions, spells etc.) In this case there’s a bold MCA in the info. So, if you are after them, just pick the fics with this mark from the list. If you are interested in this scenario, try checking FFnet C2 communities; there are bound to be some fics with de-aging there.
These are NOT my recs; it’s just a themed listing.
I don’t want to steal somebody else’s work, so check here, a list of fics featuring Severus Snape’s childhood and Severus Snape de-aged stories, compiled by SyberSnake

It is about the child of Hermonie and Ron…who happens to be the reincarnation of Snape…who *also* happens to be the eppi gen child Hugo. So I have no idea where excatly this fic fits. It is a longish one shot, so I would just read it.
I don’t think it really fits any of my lists. Would fit a reincarnation list, if there were one.
Thanks for the lists. I know a great deal of time and effort goes into them Your even more obsessed than I am!
I think this story about 4 year old Tonks should qualify for the Family life section.
