Here’s the list of Harry fics where the characters grow old.
Pay attention to THE RULES:
What I take:
- fics where one/some of the characters are old or are aging; fics where a character dies a natural death, from the old age. A note for you teens out there: 50 isn’t old! 60 isn’t either, however hard it might be for you to imagine. The thing that might help you decide if a fic qualifies is: besides their actual age, look if the character or people around him in the fic see them as old.
- somebody’s growing old must be the central part of the fic, or at least a VERY important one.
- as always, I’m interested in non-canon things, so any character but those who are old in canon (Albus, Slughorn, etc), unless we can seee them die a natural death.
King Draco’s Code:
- the theme is growing old, so if somebody’s being old has just a passing mention or if they don’t have a big part in the fic, such a fic won’t do.
- once again, 50 or 60 usually won’t be considered old, unless it’s an AU from the 18th century or earlier. If a character is horrified with the first wrinkles on their face at the age of 30 or 40 and muses about his/her growing old, it won’t qualify.
- the fics that feature Albus, Slughorn or other people of their age qualify only if we can seee them die a natural death and if it’s the main theme or a VERY significant detail of the fic.
- no WIPs that have only a chapter or two written;
- no drabbles;
- do not bring fics you haven’t read;
- do not bring fics you didn’t like;
- do not bring fics the authors of which show no grammar or spelling skill even if you liked them;
- do me a courtesy, please, do not leave only a link. I’d be really grateful if you tell me (besides the title and author) whether the fic is a WIP or completed, what the pairings and the rating are; who’s old in it and how it’s shown. You’ll spare me hours of rushed reading!
The fics are sorted in alphabetical order by TITLE (articles excluded).

Snape/Harry; NC-17, novella. Albus is dying; Harry comes back to Hogwarts to see him before he passes away.
Cost of Living, by Sansa (or here) #
Snape/Harry, NC-17, short. Snarry Games entry. Team: Postwar. Genres: Angst & Romance. Prompt: Casualty of War. Summary: The world moves on. Snape and Harry linger. The fic is sort of opposite of what I collect here but still fits. You’ll see what I mean when you read it.
Death Be Not Proud, by Magical Maeve NR
Snape/OFC; G/PG, short. Summary: Okay, this is a strange one. I finished Daughter Of Light yesterday and decided to start my big edit of the whole fic. As I was working on chapter three this scene popped into my head. It is Maeve and Severus’ death. I had to write it, just because the idea wouldn’t leave me alone, so here it is. It’s what could happen in a hundred years or so… so don’t get too traumatised. :-)

Harry defeats Voldemort and has to deal with not only with his now greatly increased fame, but also with some odd, disturbing skills he inherited from the Dark Lord. Both he and Snape fumble around trying for some kind of family normalcy, which neither one is very knowledgeable of. Harry survives his seventh year at Hogwarts with a parent as a teacher and starts his training as an Auror.” Albus’s dying of old age is a significant part of the fic.
