HP recs: Harry/Sirius

A fair warning: I’ve been out of HP fandom for quite a while by now. As I read HP fiction nearly not at all nowadays, please don’t expect these listings of mine to be kept up to date. If you report a broken link or suggest a new addition, I might fix/add it… in half a year. So please don’t use these lists as a proper gateway but rather as a general guidance for what to look in other places if you find a dead end here. For new stuff, check comments.

Harry Potter/Sirius Black

Fics are sorted in alphabetical order by title (articles excluded).

Long fics (over 20K words)

Cartographer’s Craft, by Sam Vimes (copperbadge) ##
Also Remus/Tonks; R. Summary: In the summer after Harry’s sixth year, Harry and Remus uncover a section of the Marauder’s Map which has been hidden for the past twenty years, releasing a carbon copy of sixteen-year-old Sirius Black from its depths. As they prepare for the impending war, Sirius must find a place for himself in this new world, Harry must find a way to destroy Voldemort, and Remus must face his own past while trying to build a tenuous future with Tonks. Post-HBP, contains extensive spoilers.

Corresponding Follies, by EnglishMuffin # [dead link]
R. Summary: Harry Potter is lonely. He is seventeen years old, months away from graduating, actually survived defeating Voldemort – but has never had any type of relationship. So when Sirius decides to be his secret admirer and then actually falls for his godson things get out of control.

Denial fic, i.e. let’s pretend book 5 never was. Harry is depressed. Everybody is paired up but he can’t find anybody who’d like him for who he is. He confesses it to Sirius, and Sirius who never thinks properly before acting decides to send Harry a letter as if from a secret admirer. The following correspondence brings many unexpected problems. This is an amusing and sweet fic, if somewhat clichéd. Pleasant reading.

House in the Country, by firebird5 (or or here) []
R. Summary: When Harry starts work as an Unspeakable, he stumbles upon a country house hiding the most impossible secrets. Strange facts come to light that shatter Harry’s understanding of what happened to Sirius.

Short fics

Ad Liberum, by Juxian Tang #
R. Summary: The challenge from Canis Major Fuh-Q Fest: After the war, Harry couldn’t handle the public interest, so he disappeared. Sirius, feeling guilty over his own inappropriate feelings for Harry, let him go. Now Harry works as a whore, specialising in polyjuice fantasies. He’s used to requests for ‘Harry Potter’ so he’s not surprised when the polyjuice turns him into a younger version of himself, but he *is* surprised at who walks through the door.

Cave Canem, by Maeglin Yedi #
NC-17. Summary: Harry has to profess his sexual attraction to his current Transfiguration professor during a game of Truth or Dare. Warning: underage.

An oldish fic I discovered rather later. Yes, yes, everybody has read it but me. How did I manage to miss it? I don’t know. It won’t be my favourite story by Maeglin and I don’t think this fic is quite flawless (there are some cliches there) but it’s very entertaining and sweet without been sappy. And funny, too.

Die a Virgin and Awakenings, by Eumenides1 (or here) []
PG-13 and NC-17. Warning: underage.

Found Wanting, by Anise (or here) []
NC-17. Summary: It’s been four years since Harry watched his godfather fall through the veil. He never thought he’d see him again.

Good Boy, by Memorycharm (or here, locked) #
NC-17, AU. Summary: Good boys get their sweets. Warning: chan, coercion. Written for the pornish_pixies Fantasy Fest.

An absolutely wonderful fic, as for me. Good writing, credible characterization, healthy dose of strangeness, memorable details: those biscuits Sirius has dreamt of for so long and then threw into the fireplace; Sirius pale feet with some sparse hairs; his kicking only when he’s a dog. There’s a warning for “potential Animagustiality”, but really, it’s just a hint. I so craved a good new Sirius/Harry, and here it is. Such a delight.

The Hollow Wall, by Nimori ##
NC-17. Summary: Harry has a ghost to put away. It’s a larger job than he once expected. Warnings: Underage, sort of. Voyeurism… sort of. Also here, registration required.

When I finished reading this fic, I wrote a longish excited post about how many treasures there are at Smutmas and how I love people who can write stuff like this. But my Semagic froze and refused to unfreeze, so I lost it. No matter. This fic is terrific! It’s not quite what you’d call plot (although Pauraque corrects me that it’s a mystery, and I agree), but I was sitting at the edge of my chair all the way, biting my fingers. It’s clever and sinister and warm, and you don’t know what emotional thread to follow until the very end, which is… well, which is just OMG. I can’t really say anything ‘cos I’ll spoil it. Go read!

Less a Slave (Lost Boys), by Nimori (you’ll have to register) #
NC-17; AU. Summary: A boy is lured off a dark street. Warning: chan.

The Measure of Your Worth, by Amanuensis #
NC-17. Summary: Even when you get the thing you most want, there’s still a denouement to your story.

My Godfather, the Wizard, by Nattish (or here) #
NC-17. AU. Summary: Sirius manipulates a young Harry into believing that sex is a major part of being a wizard. Warning: chan, coercion.

Nymphet, by Jade #
NC-17. AU. Warning: chan. At Jade’s page. Jade’s HP fiction is password-protected. To get the password, join JadeFics y!group. Summary: “Part of the Hpchan challenge: #3. A Nabokovian take on a seething, drowsy summer afternoon in Harry’s bedroom. Harry’s parents are still alive. The boy is twelve years of age. Sirius Black takes Harry on sun warmed floor board without a sound to alert the lunchers one floor below. No magic is to be used.”

If you don’t like chan, don’t click on the link; this fic is as channish as it can get. It’s written from Sirius / Humbert Humbert’s POV, which makes all the points at the same time smoother and sharper. Smoother, because we can see Harry with Sirius’ desire-filled eyes. It’s impossible to not become him while reading, even if for a tiny bit, because Jade conveys his Humbert-Humbert-ness flawlessly. And sharper, because he isn’t a beast, he understands the wrongness of what he’s doing. But no amount of understanding can stop him because for him, Harry is irresistible. Beside the moral aspect that is anything but flat and blunt (thanks to how well it’s done here,) this fic is devilishly hot. Not because of the summer day.

There’s one more thing I’d like to mention. Time/fic length correspondence. When I was remembering this story, I thought it was a pretty long novella. But when I went to reread it for this rec, I found out that it’s a one-shot, not long at all. The whole story of their relationship, from the first glance to that scene mentioned in the summary is unwrapped in a short fic. I think it’s another proof of the author’s skill. It’s an excellent reading; I’m surprised that I haven’t recced it before.

No Happy Memories, by Amanuensis ##
NC-17. Summary: “Can you get it all said and done in the last 24 hours of your life?”

How do you express your love of a story you consider perfect? Because I do think this one is. The writing is very good, neither too plain nor too tricky and at the same time somehow quietly poetic. There’s a formal device on the surface: the fic is organised with the help of counting hours: “This is what happens at nine o’clock,” “this is what happens at ten o’clock”. But the device doesn’t shadow *what* it’s about, it only sets the perfect, tense rhythm. I had the impression that Harry and Sirius just stepped out of Rowling’s last books. Their behaviour is very believable. Oh, what the hell! I can’t find a single flaw here, and the story totally undoes me every time I read it. It’s amazing, brilliant. It’s so painful and beautiful. Just go read it!

Please Understand, by Telanu (somniesperus) #
Also some Sirius/Remus; AU, PG-13. Summary: Sirius says it’s “Why I did what I did, although even I’m not so I get it myself.” I’m not arguing with him.

The Rumor Mill, by EnglishMuffin []
R. Summary: “An illness induced slip up causes more problems than Harry ever considered– such as where he is going to be able to find new friends?”

I wouldn’t say I liked the ending, maybe only because it wasn’t as funny as what was before it. Because what is before is really funny: the fic is a sutcom, light and amusing.

Tower Princess, Ravished, by Amanuensis (or here) #
Sirius/Harry; NC-17, short. Summary: No one hates the idea of Slut!Harry more than Harry does.

Amy knows how to write kink, she really does. I like xdressing theoretically. My kink. But in 95% of cases I don’t like how it’s written. Not so with this fic. Hot, hot, and hot again.

Unnatural Attractions, by GatewayGirl #
Harry/random dogs, Harry/Sirius, NC-17, short. Warning: explicit bestiality. Summary: Harry likes dogs. Living with one might be tricky. Not DH-compliant.

Pornish Pixies is back (at IJ) with a bang. GatewayGirl’s bestiality story is, in my opinion, what a hardcore kink story should be. Not romanticised “Harry’s love for his godfather + curiosity” but sex and perversion and wrongness which are utterly compelling and fucked up. I admire GG for the variety of kinks she can write and make into a really good story! That’s a WOW from me for this fic.

Untitled HP/SB fic, by ladynutmeg []
NC-17. Warnings: Chan (Takes place during Christmas of Harry’s fifth year, so he’s 15), masturbation, voyeurism. Summary: Harry thinks about his Godfather.

new Weird Discoveries, or How Sirius Black Got under Harry’s Skin, by Gateway Girl #
Harry/Sirius, NC-17, short. Warnings: Cracktastic new take on mpreg. Canon-compliant through GoF. Summary: Harry falls for Sirius … and then things get weird.

OMG, it’s killed me! I somehow missed the MPreg warning and then, when it came to that, began laughing like crazy and couldn’t stop until the end. Try it! For the sake of originality or for the sake of fun, you won’t regret it.

The Well Amid the Waste, by Nimori (or here) #
NC-17, AU. Summary: “Aunt Marge’s taxi was pulling out of the drive, Ripper barking out the window. Halfway to Magnolia Crescent, it passed a large black motorcycle.” Warning: chan.

This fic is charming, weird, sexy, adorable, amising, moving, beautiful. Well, it’s Nimori! <= it's supposed to sound like haute couture because she is. Haute couture of fic.

Why Two Feet Are Better Than Four, by Fleshdress []
PG.

Sirius has returned from the veil but is stuck as a dog. Harry believes that he isn’t stuck but just refuses to turn back into his human form. So he tries to convince him that as a human he’ll have more fun. Not porny. Sweet, a bit sad. There are quite a few small errors, but the story on the whole is very pleasant. Wonderful comforting reading.

Ok, I’ve got a short fic that might interest you, here it is: Naughty Dog, by julielal

summary: It’s night and Sirius can’t sleep. And Padfoot is a very naughty dog, but Harry smells so very good… hpsb, kind of, and bestiality, possibly shocking I guess, but you’re not so delicate, are you? oneshot, rather short

I don’t know if it really deserves to be put there, but I’m rather proud of it so maybe you can take a minute to read it ?

    Hi Julie,

thanks for the suggestion but I don’t really take them for rec lists.

  3. Susha on June 10th, 2009 9:21 pm

Loved the recs. Thank you for sharing them; its oft hard to find anything decent to read in the sea of god awful fanfiction… though Harry Potter usually has better caliber of writing than most other fandoms. I loved most of the fics that you liked so I’m off to see your recs in some of the anime categories.

    Thank you once again.

Thanks for all the recs. I read Cartographer’s Craft on your suggestion and loved it - now I’ve been looking around for Corresponding Follies, as it sounds like a really enjoyable read, but the link doesn’t work and I can’t find it anywhere else. Do you have another link for it or do you know if it has been removed from the internet completely?
if you could let me know that would be lovely! thank you.

I’m trying to find a story where Sirius is turned into a vampire. In the story, the transformation intensifies your feelings for those who are precious to you, so he wakes up wanting Harry. I’ve been searching everywhere for this fic, but can’t remember the title, and am really getting no where. Can you offer any assistance?

I do enjoy the manner in which you have framed this specific problem and it does indeed offer me a lot of fodder for consideration. Nonetheless, through what precisely I have observed, I only wish when other feedback pile on that men and women continue to be on issue and in no way start upon a tirade regarding the news du jour. All the same, thank you for this outstanding point and even though I can not go along with it in totality, I value your perspective.
