Severus Snape/Various

Fics are sorted in alphabetical order by title (articles excluded).

For Snape threesomes go here.

Long and Medium-length fics (over 15K words)

I Loved a Black, by Ziasudra #
Snape/Regulus, Snape/Lucius; NC-17, novella. Warnings: Character death (non-graphic, off-screen). Summary: Winter of 1979. Two opposite men are brought together.

As I said in feedback, I rarely ever read Regulus-fic because he’s sort of “not there” for me. Like Zacharias Smith or Aberforth Dumbledore. So it takes a lot for me to “believe” in him. In this story he’s very real, so real that I’m afraid that I’ll be comparing other Reguluses (Reguli?) to him. Severus is also real and wonderful: socially inept, prickly but charming to us Snape-lovers. It’s a very sad story ‘cos we know how it ended but not a totally hopeless or devastating one. Regulus joins the Death Eaters and Snape asks to be appointed his trainer. So, the training begins, with many a discovery and unexpected turn. I liked it very much.

Mirror Magic: part 1, part 2, by Go Seaward #
Snape/Lupin, Snape/Harry; NC-17, novella. Summary: For the SSFF three-word challenge: contrition, voluptuous, bloodthirsty. Or, to put it another way, Snape has a stalker and a fiftieth birthday.

You Never Know, by Stasia (link to the epilogue; the previous chapters are linked from there) #
Snape/Remus, Snape/Sirius, NC-17; AU, novel-length. Specific warnings for some chapters. Summary: “Marauders Era, AU. Severus is in Gryffindor and Remus is in Slytherin. Remus is the one that gets tormented by James, Sirius, Peter, and Severus, until Severus discovers that Remus is an outcast in his own house, being beaten by Lucius Malfoy.”

I liked this story. I suppose that Snupin fen who watch lupin_snape have all read it already, but let this rec serve the rest who might be interested. You know, I can’t say that I quite believed in this Gryffindor!Severus and maybe I didn’t quite see the Slytherinness of Remus. But while my head could have been asking how much of original Severus (mostly him; Remus is more recognisable) there is in this version, it somehow didn’t. Because I was totally in the fic, from the beginning to the end without breaks. In the end, I can say that I was completely charmed with the characters how Stasia wrote them. They come alive; they are all so wonderfully inarticulate and teeney but passionate and appealing too. I liked how Gryffindor!Severus turns out to be more Gryffindor than his friends. And most of all I probably loved Animagi here, one in particular. Loved it!

I think what is done really wonderfully here is how Big Events gradually come looming through the tangle of teenage everyday life: it all starts so innocent, easy, fun and games, and gets more and more serious and involved. The epilogue seemed a bit rushed to me, but maybe it’s not — I’m not sure. It’s an epilogue, set several years after the main events, so it plays its part: it wraps up the story. There’s an occasional error here and there, but not many and they don’t spoil reading, truly :) All in all, I really enjoyed the story, spent several hours reading it non-stop, and I think it will stay with me.

Short fics (less than 15K words)

Anything But Temptation, by Beth H (or here, locked) #
Snape/Slughorn, Snape/McGonagall, Snape/Lily, NC-17. Warnings: Wanking, Fondling, Frotting, Dub-con, NC-17, short. Summary: Even the most brilliant of young potions’ prodigies occasionally have something other than potions on their minds.

Please, don’t mind the pairings. It’s funny and lovely — in a rather twisted way — and very enjoyable! Wonderful idea and execution. I melted, giggling, while reading it.

Dalliances with Death Eaters, by Penumbra (or here) #
Snape/Lockhart, Snape/OMC; NC-17. Summary: “Knockturn Alley rent boys had never before had a client quite like Mr. Flounce.”

The story that we are told is seen through a third party’s eyes, an OC prostitute who observes his client, then another client, then them together. It’s not a PWP, it’s a *story*. These observations by a neutral party are a real treasure: he sees Snape and Lockhart outside the environment we are used to. Besides, it’s a brothel, a place where many things are revealed that are usually hidden. Small details of their behaviour, their habits the OC rentboy sees during their visits tell us more about Snape (mostly) and Lockhart than a wordy novel would. Fantastic story! I wish there were more fics like this, if only for the superb quality!

Eudaimonia (Happiness), by Zillah (visionshadows) #
Snape/Bill, Snape/Harry; PG. Summary: Snape kidnaps Harry and takes him to the only place where they are truly safe from Voldemort. Also can be found at Severus Snape Fuh-Q Fest; search by author’s name or title.

new The Rose Petal, by Snegurochka Lee #
Snape/Lupin, Snape/Harry, NC-17, short. Warnings: Non-con, captivity. Summary: This is your best memory of him, the one that sustains you later, through all the lies.

That was beautifully written and clever! I opened the story to check if it fit in any of my themed lists and got completely caught up in it, all because of the writing. You’ll read and wonder when it’s taking place, and it will become clear later. You’ll think what the fuck is going all at all and why Harry’s doing what he’s doing. And it will become clear too, even if not as one would expect. I have my suspicions about the author because there aren’t many Snupin writers that mess with my head in this way with their writing and that make me like it.

Smoky Memories, by Arachnete2 #
Snape/Sirius, Snape/Harry, R. Summary: How was the godfather, so is the godson.

As the author says, the fic was inspired by my own “Snape pursues Harry” challenge, although it was but inspiration. Snape doesn’t pursue/court Harry here. Most of the fic isn’t about Harry, it’s about Black and of course even more about Snape. But not being about Harry at all, it turns out to be very much about him. Er. I confused everybody, didn’t I? Ok. This is a rather melancholic fic that speaks about Snape’s strange grief after Sirius’s death, shows us scenes from their rather strange past affair and from Snape’s sort-of-relationship with Harry as of now. It’s melancholic by mood and quiet by intonation but not unhappy or hopeless. You know what? The more I remember this story the more I like it. So now I like it quite a lot.

That Never Felt a Wound, by Nimori #
Snape/Sirius, Snape/Harry, NC-17. Summary: Revenge is good, but counter-revenge is better. Part of the Severus Snape Fuh-Q Fest, scenario #1: Snape discourages his suitor. Warning: chan, dubious consent.

There’s No Accounting for Taste, by frogslayr # (locked)
Snape/Harry, Snape/Lupin, and wishful thinking by way of Harry/Ginny, Harry/Draco; PG-13. Summary: “Harry pursues Snape, who is straight. Gryffindors are appalled. Lupin intervenes.”

First response to cordelia_v’s and mine “Snape Is Straight” Challenge! And it’s a fantastic, fabulous fic! Adorable, hilarious in the best frogslayr’s “spray-your-monitor-and-ruin-your-keyboard” way: a bit ridiculous, a bit weird, ironic and sweet. Brilliant light style. I so loved it!

Wear My Face, by Rusalka (marinarusalka) #
Snape/Lucius, others, NC-17. Summary: Lucius Malfoy is horny; Severus Snape is smitten; Sirius Black is clueless; these things never end well. Challenge string: 67: Slytherin Truth-or-Dare, 89: Someone in Slytherin has a crush on a Gryffindor. How do the other Slytherins cure their fellow of this “disease”? and 99: Some Slytherins discover the pleasure of Polyjuice Potion. What do they do with it?
