Severus Snape/Other

Fics are sorted in alphabetical order by title (articles excluded).

Long fics (stories over 50K words, long series and such)

Betrayals: A Story In Eight Parts, by Josan (or on LJ) ##
Snape/?? R. Warning: There is a sex scene that may cause you to cringe, but it is germane to the plot. Also, there are suggestions of het relationships.

I’m going to rec the author rather than a fic, so consider this rec applicable to all Josan’s fics on this page.

Every time I read her novellas I have the impression as if I were a child about 10-12 years old. Imagine that I had a friend of the same age and one day we were left alone. It’s evening, the weather is bad and we have to stay at home. We both are if not bookworms, then at least well-read. We are sitting in my dimly lit bedroom and telling stories to occupy ourselves. Josan’s stories seem to me to be one of such stories that a good kid tells to another one to disperse boredom. Or what a good parent tells to his/her children in long winter evenings. [Let’s forget about slash aspect for a while.]

It always seems to me when I read these stories that I’m caught on a hook and it drags me - further, further, what next, and what happens then, and so on until the very ‘happily ever after’ (which is the necessary feature of Josan’s fiction). It appears that although there are descriptions of places or people there, and there can be characters’ introspections, and dialogues, the main thing nevertheless is *what* happens and not *how*, the narrative sequence prevails over detail. The the author uses consistent chains of events, preferably day after day after day. There can be gaps but no breaking of the straight, even time line, and the action is kept steady. Also, her language is deliberately simple, not flourishing; the descriptions are sparse.

When Josan’s stories were first recced to me and I read them, I didn’t like them. Their strange and simple narration seemed moronic to me. But, as almost always with the things I like, later they started haunting me with their images; then I re-read them. And now I can say for sure: I like them. Josan always creates a very integral universe; when you read her stories, you can always imagine not only ‘this room’ or ‘this place’ but see the world where her characters live in general. And I absolutely adore how she writes animals!

Yes, Josan’s stories often become sappy towards the end but I don’t consider it a flaw. I don’t mind it at all because it seems to me an essential feature of her storytelling manner. All in all, I think Josan is one of the most original HP fanfic writers I’ve read. I said I liked her stories? No, I *love* them. I’m absolutely bewitched with their simplistic magic.

Gift of Light, by Josan (or on LJ) ##
Snape/OMC; also Harry/OFC; NC-17. Variation on Snape and Son: that one paired Snape with Lupin, this one, with OMC, and is much longer.

Night-blooming Heartsease, by Julad ##
Snape/Neville; R. Prequel to Transfigurations (Harry/Draco; NC-17), by Resonant. Then George raised his glass. “To Neville Longbottom,” he said … “And to Severus Snape, may he rest in whatever he prefers instead of peace.”

Medium-length fics (~15 to 50K words; stories you can read in one go but it will take some time)

Aftermath, by Josan (or on LJ) ##
Snape/Ron; NC-17. Summary: It’s long after the War, and Severus Snape discovers there is more to life than potions. Warning: rape, non-con, violence.

Apocrypha, by Xylodemon (or here) #
Snape/James; NC-17. Warnings: Angst. Summary: Two can keep a secret, if one of the two is dead.

Gorge. The Story of Lucius Malfoy, by Libertine (luciusmalfoy) []
Snape/Lucius; NC-17; unfinished? Issue 1, Issue 2, Issue 3, Issue 4. Summary: Lucius Malfoy during the time of the Death Eaters, 1979-1982.

In From The Cold, by Beth H #
Snape/Kingsley, R. Summary: Begins immediately after HBP. What good is a spy without someone to report to?

Is That a Decoy Detonator in Your Pocket, Or are you Happy to See Me? by rose_whispers #
Snape/George; NC-17, novellette. Summary: George Weasley is struggling to find his place in a new, post-war world. The injured, reticent refugee he discovers in the Forbidden Forest isn’t part of his plans.

Post-DH Snape/George is what the doctor ordered, especially as delightful as this one. George is teaching Potions at Hogwarts because there wasn’t a better candidate on a short notice. One day he finds a half-dead Snape in the forest, and his life changes even more than it changed after the death of his brother. The story speaks of grief and compassion and finding your place again when you lost it, but it’s not overly angsty. Quite the opposite, in fact. There are lots of amusing moments, and on the whole, it’s a very heart-warming piece, wonderfully written and interesting to read.

Pet, by Cluegirl (or here) ##
Snape/Lucius; NC-17. Summary: Lucius tries to keep his lover from Voldemort’s notice. Warnings: D/s, light bondage, intellectual domination, angst, plot, and one het rape.

ClueGirl wrote another fantastic story! It’s luxurious and rich with nuances; actually, I think it’s one of the best fics I’ve read lately. The author concentrates on a short period after Severus’ leaving Hogwarts and before he joined Voldemort. She creates the backstory that looks nothing like canon but at the same time is very believable. Young Severus Snape lives as a sort of courtesan with his older lover Lucius in Malfoy Manor. Severus is affectionate but painfully proud. His old and formerly respectable family’s fortune is gone. Lucius is a rich aristocrat. He loves his ‘Raven’, but only as he can — as his precious possession. Severus basks in attention but strives to prove his own worth, his independence, and sees the way to do it in serving Lucius’ Master himself. Narcissa hates her rival. It all comes together in a really complicated plot where Slytherins (don’t forget, they all are!) weave intrigues and scheme against each other; the war grows outside and the glimpses of it show through. Everyone has their own goals and ways of achieving them. They are all imperfect and far not flawless, but at the same time the author makes the two main characters very appealing.

ClueGirl writes the conflict masterfully; the story is at once enticing and heartbreaking, and it leaves the future Severus and Lucius’ relationship, as we see the glimpses of it in canon, open to interpretation. Are they lovers again, having overcome the multiple obstacles their pride and vastly different social standing produced — because the love was strong? Or maybe they can barely stand each other, bitter and unforgiving? That’s for you to decide. Go read if you missed it, because Pet is an incredible story!

Sans Merci, by Predatrix #
Snape/Lucius; NC-17. Summary: This is a story imagining a possible childhood for Snape. Then, while I was writing it, OOTP came out. After a while, this gave me an interesting idea. It is also a story about sexual discovery and seduction. Warning: severe verbal domination/submission/humiliation, underage.

Short fics (under 15K words)

Adventures in Time Travel, by Corax (coraxjabberwock) #
Snape/Terry Boot; PG.

Blind, Deaf and Dumb, by Delphi ##
Snape/Filch; NC-17. Summary: Severus Snape makes an unexpected discovery. Warning: underage.
Sequels: In the Eye of the Beholder (or here, locked) and An Eye for an Eye.

Captive Audience, by Rex Luscus (or here) #
Snape/Lucius, Harry; NC-17. Summary: a hint of Snape/Harry. Harry witnesses a scene he’s not sure he wants to see. Warning: voyeurism, dub con.

Look at the pairing. Yes, Snape/Lucius. But recced it in a Snarry rec-set. Yes, I have a reason. Harry comes upon a scene he wouldn’t want to see, that of Lucius fucking Snape. Trapped under his Invisibility clock, he has no choice but to watch. Everything is about Harry here: his observations, his thoughts, his emotions, how they stumble, race and change while he watches. And while Lucius is not a paper doll here — he’s a character, flesh and blood — Harry’s attention is almost entirely on Snape. This is why (and something else I’m not telling you ‘cos it would be a spoiler) I recced it among Snarry fics. I’d say it requires no small amount of writing skill to change a character’s views or thoughts to opposite of what he had come with in a two-page scene so that it looks absolutely believable. And hot, don’t forget hot!

Circumstances & Second Chances, by Odogoddess #
Snape/Ron, NC-17.

The story begins some time after the war. A veteran Ron Weasley who’s learned to live with one eye and one hand hasn’t quite learned how to live a life in the times of peace while all his friends somehow moved on. Severus Snape is released from Azkaban with no wand, no money, no home. Read to learn how they stumble upon each other. It’s a warm fic. Ron has matured, and Snape has seen his share of bad things to gain some reason, if not lose his bad temper. I liked this story very much.

The Curse Breaker, by Josan (or here) ##
Snape/Bill, PG-13. Summary: Severus Snape finds his suitor is not to be discouraged.

The Day Thou Gavest, by Kulfold #
Snape/Dumbledore (implied); R.

Faceless, by Sparrowhawk []
Snape/?? NC-17.

new A Fish May Marry a Bird, by lookfar (with illustrations by fanlay) []
Snape/Firenze, NC-17, 8800 words. Warnings: comedic wanking, oral, slash, sex between different orders of Magical Brethren, serious money shot and, also, this is very, very dirty. Summary: Snape discovers an unrecognized area of erotic interest.

Lovely and very hot :) While the relationship is smoother that what I’d like and much more romantic, I enjoyed the story anyway. I’ve been dreaming of somebody writing Firenze slash, and am very glad that the author addressed what centaurs eat, how they sleep, etc. - all those small details of everyday life that interest me the most.

I loved the accompanying art, too, especially the colouring and how it fades. It’s a style that is at the same time sharp and tender. Pleasure!

Goat Song (A Tragedy in Five Parts), by Delphi (atdelphi) #
Aberforth Dumbledore/Severus Snape, NC-17, short. Summary: Concerning the events surrounding the Battle of Hogwarts, times long before, and an unconventional friendship.

I saw the headers of this fic and thought, “I’m going to read either a very good or a very bad story.” Because only a fool (and correspondingly, bad writer) or a good writer would be daring enough to pick this pairing. I’m happy it was the latter! :) It’s amazing how this short and seemingly spare in detail story works wonders in getting through to the reader. Only five scenes but they do stand out. It’s a kind story even if it seems grumpy at first. Not unlike Aberforth.

Gods of Hellfire, by Hijja (or here) #
Snape/Ron, various side pairings, NC-17; kink, coercion/mild dub-con. Summary: “The Order – we fought their bloody war for them and now-” “Now you pay for it.”

Paraphrasing what I said to the author: while the premise is quite unbelievable (well, in the Rowling’s world that belongs to canon, not fanon), I raise my imaginary hat to Hijja’s skill anyway! She made it as credible as possible with this kind of scenario, and the writing is fabulous. Wow. I would like me a bit of this Snape :) Ugly and selfish, ambiguous in his motives but good in the results of his actions, he is the Snape that I love. And I like the stories where plot is wrapped around porn/kink — not PWPs but where everything is centered on sex. The senario itself, with the complicated system of points awarded for various services and sacrifices, helps the pacing nicely. Delightful!

His Brother’s Keeper, by Sparrowhawk []
Snape/Bill, NC-17. Summary: The new Potions master is a terror. Warnings: chan, dub con.

Hocus Focus, by Bernice (iibnf) #
Snape/Lockhart; NC-17. Summary: Snape has a great idea for a potion.

In Want of a Wife, by Isis ##
Snape/?? NC-17. Summary: Snape hires a courtesan to masquerade as his wife at a family gathering. Written for the third wave of the Severus Snape Fuh-Q Fest, with the three word challenge: feere, chastity, Paris.

Letters with Lockhart, by Isis (or here, locked) #
Snape/Lockhart; NC-17. Summary: Correspondence between the Potions master and the internationally famous yet naturally blond author, during the summer before Chamber of Secrets. Written for the pornish_pixies Fantasy Fest: Snape/Lockhart, bibliophilia, Snape finds himself quite taken with Gilderoy’s writing style.

Short, brillant, and funny like hell, especially the ending. Isis *is* versatile. She, as we can see here, can write even Snape/Lockhart so that even if you don’t care about the pairing, you will clap your hands in delight. Wonderful fic.

A Moment of Sin, by Icarus (or here) #
Snape/?? R. Summary: Haven’t we all had a blind spot, something that we knew, but didn’t admit to even ourselves? Severus Snape has no patience for such. Percy is convinced he hasn’t a trace of compassion.

A Night in the Life of James Potter, by Xylodemon (or here) ##
Snape/James; NC-17. Summary: In which, James should have stayed in bed.

You know, James/Snape is not my pairing, but this fic is so funny and, IMO, brilliantly written that I couldn’t help loving it. I think that a young James here is absolutely perfect. Sparkling bright, lots of fantastic details — and it all is packed into a pretty short story. Delightful!

Not What It Was Supposed To Be, by Josan (or on LJ) []
Snape/?? PG-13. Summary: The War is over, and things change in the name of “Progress”.

Nothing He Ever Wanted, by jeddy83 (or here) #
Snape/Filch; NC-17. Summary: There are strange goings on at Hogwarts. Smut, humor, and a side of Hagrid.

Don’t run away on seeing the pairing! This fic is funny, light (but with a touch of seriousness), lovely, with brilliant dialogue and fantastic characterisation! It’s 10 minutes of sheer joy!

Open Your Mind, by Florahart #
Snape/Charlie; NC-17.

This story has one of the most unusual but persuasive uses of Legilimency. Snape and Draco have to run and hide. They come to Charlie to his dragon resort. Charlie admits them; he has a very good reason to. Charlie in this fic is fabulous. He’s possibly the most real one that I’ve seen, three-dimensional and very appealing. Dragons are also fabulous. There’s also a very, very interesting take on Molly! A wonderful long fic!

Potio, by Seeker (brenantrim) (or here) #
Snape/Lockhart; NC-17. Summary: Lockhart attempts to gather the remains of his life together after losing his memory, with some help from Snape.

The Tao of Diogenes, by The Treacle Tart #
Snape/Ron, R. Summary: The war is finally over and two veterans meet again…for the very first time.

Thinking Bright, by Florahart #
Snape/Charlie; NC-17. A/N: regan_v issued a challenge the other day, to write fluffy Snape. This started out as comment fic for that, but then it took on a life of its own. It’s not, despite the opening, fluffy. Though Snape does possess a pink wand. Sigh

A Treatise on the Blood of the Nightjar, by Eodrakken (pauraque) (or here) []
Snape/Lucius, PG-13. Summary: Draco liked the garden at night. It was the bedrooms that put him on edge.

Two Way Mirror, by Icarus (or here, locked) #
Snape/Percy, NC-17. Summary: Wizarding gloryholes, unromantic sex and gritty, anonymous encounters under the shadow of war. A fugitive is at risk of being believed.

I love how Icarus takes a kinky PWP and writes fabulous magic into it! And of course I can’t help loving her Percy. So it becomes more than PWP, it’s sad, desperate, a whole long story in just a few strokes. Wonderful fic!

Under His Skin, by Florahart (or here) #
Snape/Bill, NC-17. Summary: Everyone has known for a long time that Bill Weasley is sexually unusual. Now, he is sexually damaged, too. Warnings: Anonymous sex, general ouchiness, and a very messed-up Bill. I swear it’s not all dark, though.

Dark(ish), twisted, kinky, and very intense. It features lots of dirty sex, including Glory Holes! You’ll start reading and it will seem pretty dark, but please, believe the author when she says it’s not that dark. I’d summarise it like this, “This is a story about how a very damaged man can be healed by another man, nasty, cruel, unkind, and unsympathetic.” :) I loved Snape in this fic. He’s fabulous: pragmatic with a no-nonsense attitude but there’s also something dark and twisted in him. Bill after Greyback’s attack is also explored wonderfully. Good reading, once again, very intense!

What Percy Saw, by Lordhellebore #
Snape/Percy; R. Summary: Starting with a detention in his first year at Hogwarts, Percy over the years gets to know a side of Snape most other people have no idea exists, leading him to finally make a strange decision. Why does he trust Snape even after the events of HBP?

A Winter’s Tale, by Chaos Rose ##
Snape/Filch; NC-17. Summary: Snape has a secret, Filch has rheumatism - wackiness ensues. Kinks: Dirty talk, rough/urgent sex, intercrural, magical rites, voyeurism.

DO. NOT. SKIP or RUN because of the pairing! The fic is absolutely wonderful. It’s written in Filch’s perspective, and he’s more intelligent (or better educated) here than how I imagine him — or maybe he’s just not his caricature self as seen by children, in the books. But he still looks in character, very down-to-earth, sly, and observant. And Snape… Snape is a young professor. Don’t you want to see this young professor get drunk and fall down a staircase, singing a lewd and silly song? They are both somehow worth each other :) The fic itself is written absolutely marvellously, with the descriptions that stick to memory and details that simply make it shine! And it’s really hot!
