Novel-length fics and novellas
Beg Me For It series, by Icarus (or at the RS, requires password) ##
NC-17. Summary for the first story: “Ron tells how he wound up working for the Death Eaters. Then Lucius asks Ron for a favour, and life takes a turn for the truly bizarre. (I normally hate first-person POV stories, but this tale requires Ron’s relentless humour. Trick or Treat, Mr Death Eater.)”
This is my absolutely favourite Ron. I like how Icarus writes her Ron in general, but in this series we can hear his voice. I believed it from the first instance, like: oh yes, this is Ron Weasley! He’s neither ludicrous or stupid as it often happens when writers decide to speak with his voice nor suddenly very coherent and literate as authors make him sound in their apology attempts. Here he is self-adequalte. Not a super-intellectual star but not a fool either, and he’s very attractive, or, I’d say, as appealing as his canon self. Icarus chooses a very precise intonation that makes his view of the events credible and truthful.
The universe where the action takes place is dark. Death Eaters rule, Percy and Ron work for the new, Lucius Malfoy’s ministry and are confined to their rooms after work. In other words, everything is horribly wrong. But the fic isn’t major angst. How so? Because we see it in Ron’s perspective, with his detachement and strange sense of humour that save it and make it an absolutely fascinating reading. Don’t forget Draco who is very much Draco despite the circumstances. It’s a very good fic, and I love it to bits!
The Better Part of Valor, by Mad Maudlin (wideworldsend) (link to ch.1; or here) #
PG-13/R. Summary: Discretion, they say, is the better part of valor. But for Auror Ron Weasley, a strange case and the sudden reappearence of Draco Malfoy in his life threaten to blow the lid off his best-kept secret.
Absolutely fabulous. Fantastic Ron’s voice/narrative voice, very engaging detective storyline, charming gentle humour. I loved Ron as the investigator — and it’s not just a detective intrigue, you know. This one grabs you and drags you along. I loved how the author wrote it so that the reader always understands things one step ahead of Ron. He’s so wonderful when he’s clueless. And Hermione’s voice! And gay bars! Tired!Draco is also wonderful. Charming, well-written story. I loved it.
Office Space, by Xylodemon (or here) ##
NC-17. Summary: It’s all in a day’s work.
The fic is slow and so seems longer than it is. I admit I thought it to be a bit too verbose and slow in the middle. But I didn’t really mind because I liked the world the author created. It’s palpable and reads as if it were real. I love it best in HP fics. I want to know how this magical world works on everyday basic, all those small things that help life along: what they do during their office hours, how they copy files, what their desks and chairs are like, etc. For instance, Ron’s boss, Cadawaller, is an OC I can’t help falling in love with, even though he’s “bald, aside from a strange tuft of white hair that sprouted from the centre of his head like a tail-feather,” and “roughly the same age as Stonehenge.” I loved the rest of the supporting characters; I liked how the author unobtrusively introduced the backstory when necessary; I loved all that Goblin business, and all in all, I was utterly charmed. Very enjoyable.
Origins of Myth, by Arsenic Jade (also here) ##
NC-17. Also Snape/Hermione, Harry/OFC. Summary: Draco gets lost. Ron finds him. Warning: rape. Sequels.
Reunion series, by Icarus #
R; WIP. Summary: Ten years after their steamy romance, ten years of complicated, messy lives, two men find themselves at loose ends… and together again. Warning: MPreg.
sea change, by girlcalledjane (exitsign) (or here) ##
NC-17. Summary: sea change (n): a marked transformation.
This is what I call an ideal Smutmas fic! It’s long. It’s so hot that I was damning myself to hell for starting it at work; squirming and blushing doesn’t begin to describe my state :) There’s plenty of sex, a lot of funny things (I did laugh out loud several times). In my opinion, it’s as in character, at least in what concerns Ron, as it can get. It moves deliciously slowly but doesn’t drag. It’s touching and tender in places. And I loved how the author rounded it up. It’s so, so… Fuckingtastic and fuckingperfect. I LOVED it!
Unbecoming, by Cinnamon (starflowers) []
R. Summary: Part One: Denial (The Unbecoming of Ronald Weasley) Denial and fear aren’t such horrible things, especially when you’ve got alcohol and loneliness to hide behind. Ron is perfectly happy in the empty life he’s made for himself, until Draco Malfoy takes one look at him and understands the things Ron fears even better than he himself does. Draco/Ron, R, AU, Post-Hogwarts.
Short and medium-length fics
Archipelago, by Mad Maudlin (wideworldsend) (link to ch.1; or here) #
Hard R. Summary: There’s a difference between being lonely and being alone. Draco Malfoy is alone. Ron Weasley is quite probably insane.
Ron Weasley is following Draco around, claiming to be a Seer and prophesying Draco’s imminent death. Draco is friends with his illegal house-elf that loves psychoanalysing him. Harry Potter knows that Ron is insane. It’s not crack, believe me! It’s one of the most captivating and credible stories I’ve read in a while. There’s a murder mystery, cryptic premonitions, and charming characters, the elf in particular. I was sniggering half the time. Wonderfully written and very enjoyable!
A Different Tune, by November Snowflake (or here) #
Other pairings mentioned, slash and het; R. Summary: It was one of the last things Ron had expected to hear, right up there with “nursery school teacher” and “rentboy.” Warning: References to character deaths.
Lovely story, bittersweet and hopeful and wonderfully written. Ron does the job his father did for the Ministry before. One day Aurors deposit a case on him ‘cos they think it’s harmless and more for his department: somebody charmed their door in a Muggle neighbourhood to repell Muggles, but doesn’t do anything else treatening or even magical. Ron goes to deliver a warning. Quite charming!
Famous Last Words, by Jordan Grant (or here) ##
NC-17. Warnings: prostitution, bondage. Summary: The Dark Lord has won the war and Ron is reduced to a life on the streets. Enter Draco Malfoy . . . Written for the “Old Clichés, New Tricks” Fest at hp_cliche: Ron/Draco Rent boy — only this time, Ron is the rent boy.
House of the Rising Sun, by kishijoten (requires password) #
NC-17. Ron/Draco, sort of Ron/Harry. Summary: Ron, who has always been in love with his best friend, gets him the only way he knows how.
How to be Dead, by circe_tigana #
NC-17. Summary: Healer Ron attends to wizard patients while Harry fights a war that never ends. Wizards don’t die like you and I; not your typical kitchen sink drama.
If we don’t kill each other first…, by kaalee (or here) #
R. Summary: Post Hogwarts: Ron finds Draco left for dead and is assigned to try to heal him and discovers it to be much harder than he imagined.
The story starts as a war!fic. It captured me with the very first scene and didn’t let go until the very end. Ron is one of field orderlies, of sorts (Harry is one, too). After bringing in an injured and unresponsive Draco, Ron is assigned to try and pull him out of his comatose state. Ron doesn’t like it. Malfoy is not responding. Ron spends time with him, talking, reading aloud. Malfoy keeps being comatose. You’d think, how can it be captivating? But it is. It really is. You gradually learn more and more important background details, following the unhurried progress of the story. Add here its fantastic narrative intonation and a really wonderful Ron, and you’ll have a very enjoyable reading!
If You Want, by Bec (sangredulce) []
NC-17. Sequel to A Taste of Honey | Continuation. Ron, Draco, Seamus.
Is Forever Enough? , by Janice Chess (or here) #
R, also Harry/?? Summary: Ron reluctantly accepts Draco’s help in identifying the author of a series of seductive love letters he accidentally finds under Harry’s bed. Will the answer lead to love or heartbreak? Or maybe a little of both? Seventh year, post-war, canon-compliant through HBP.
Lather, Rinse, Repeat, by Florahart []
NC-17. Challenge: 1. Auror!Ron becomes Draco’s bodyguard.
The Many Woes of Ronald Weasley, by mizBean (or here) #
NC-17. Past Harry/Draco and Harry/Ron. Summary: “Ron’s life is a mess, but at least it makes sense until Draco Malfoy makes a reappearance.”
I think this story is made by two things: the narrative voice and what roles the characters play. There are just a few characters, but their roles are priceless. 1. Ron, who’s been in love with Harry for ages and who is now a super-salesman of racing brooms. 2. Draco, who left with Harry when Harry left and who is now back to buy the best broom from Ron and shake his equilibrium. 3. Harry, who’s travelling all over the word off-screen and doesn’t actually appear in the fic at all. 4. Harry’s macaw, whom I’m totally in love with, who delivers a postcard from Harry to Ron and refuses to leave without reply, in the meanwhile causing trouble. The other supporting characters are wonderful too, be it Ginny or Ron’s employer. I loved how the story was written. It made me laugh and “awww” more than once, and Ron’s interaction with Ginny, supported by the cawing of Harry’s macaw, is particularly funny. Lovely, funny, warm story, wonderful storytelling voice!
Ministry, by Blythely (or here) #
NC-17; AU. For cloisonne who requested: Ron/Draco, with a side of Snape. Victorian AU. Dark!fic. Rent boy. BDSM. Warnings: As above, and blatant misuse of 19th century religion.
Morning, Noon, and Night, by Mad Maudlin (wideworldsend) (or here) #
R. Summary: A day in Ron Weasley’s life, with its biggest complication. Post-Hogwarts.
An Open Letter to the Person With Whom I’ve Been Engaging in Various Sordid Acts, Including but Not Limited to Mutual Masturbation, Terribly Sloppy Oral Sex and Also There Was the Time That We Attempted Actual Intercourse Only to Discover It Was Horribly Awkward, by Breed (weatherby) (or here) #
R.
Show and Tell, by Aspen (cursescar) and Ella Bane #
Also some Harry/Hermione; NC-17. Warnings: exhibitionism/voyeurism, public sex, dirty talk, mild humiliation, rimming. Summary: To Sophie Richard, whom Aspen and Ella both love, and who requested for the Fantasy Fest: Ron/Draco, established, loving relationship with a very dominant Ron. Public sex as a much-desired punishment for Draco. Mild humiliation.
A PWP, hot, dirty and somewhat funny. Really, really super hot. I haven’t read much of Ella’s PWPs, but who hasn’t enjoyed Aspen’s! In this case the authors’ collaboration, which is always a perilous business, turned out really successful. Prepare a bucket of cold water!
A Slow-Motion Accident, by Geoviki / Duinn Fionn (or here) #
R. Summary: Ron would love it if his new companion, Draco Malfoy, would just bugger off and die. Although the last time he did, it ruined Ron’s life.
Viki ventured to write a Ron/Draco and of course created something unusual and lovely. Draco Malfoy dies in the first paragraph of the fic. But it’s not an angsty tale; no, just something amusing and bittersweet — more sweet than bitter. Light and pleasant!
A Soft Spot for Lost Clauses: part 1, part 2, part 3, by Helen (helenish) ##
R.
This is probably the shortest review I’ve ever posted: this fic is as warm, brilliant, and perfect as everybody says.
Wine of Life, by Femme []
R. Summary: Murder. Slytherins. An enchanted snake. Just another Weasley birthday. Really. Ron/Draco, Ron/Harry. Written for Icarus as part of the 2004 Ron Ficathon.
The Wood Was Dark, the Grass Was Green, by Cormallen (link to part 2 at the bottom; or here) #
NC-17. Warning: off-screen background-character deaths. Summary: Post-HBP. There is a boy living in the woods near The Burrow…
I’m stealing this rec from Ella Bane :) This a charming post-HBP story with clever magic. It first made me perplexed, in a pleasant way, but the mystery was revealed at the end, and it was believable, as for me. After the events of HBP, Ron finds a boy in the woods near The Burrow. The boy says he’s called Draco Malfoy. Ron laughs; he’s never heard such a funny name. Ron nicks food from his meals for the boy and visits him every day. Ron mentions his school, Hogwarts. The boy mentions his school. Ron never heard about it. Hogwarts, huh? Etc. It all makes perfect sense, believe me! And it’s not AU. Read to find out what happens and why and what it comes to. Wonderful, lovely, interesting story!

Oh, this is a cool set up you have here. I like it. It’s highly organized, easy to find what you’re looking for. I’ve liked how detailed your recs are. You take the time to explain what you saw in a story and it sells me on reading them. Thank you again for your rec, too.
I realize that updating rec-lists is a pain and you’ve just gone through the trouble of moving everything. But when you have time again, or if you find yourself tinkering with your recs anyway, you might want to change your link to go directly to the story (http://www.icarus.slashcity.net/stories/begmeforit.html)
I’ve noticed that linking to my front page has caused people to wander aimlessly through my site, looking for the fic. The person who followed this link opened a Draco/Bill drabble before they departed. I have a feeling they were frustrated.
Cheers! (Cool site… *looks around myself*)
