What I take:
- first of all: actual state of disability should play a part, there should not be just mentioning that a character is disabled or injured, nor only a process of inflicting it;
- since mental disorders are very complicated and the border line there is often very vague, I take only those which cause the most serious changes in a person’s life, like amnesia, aphasia, catatonia. Insanity fits only if a character is in a mental institution and is regarded as completely inadequate; no borderline states;
- of physical: mortal diseases like cancer or AIDS; serious injures that completely change a character’s life like paralysis or blindness. If a hero just limps because he/she hit his/her leg against a table, or has headaches [as canon Harry does] (sorry for the seemingly contemptuous attitude, I don’t tend to underestimate the pain such an illness can cause, but they are just not the topic here), such a fic won’t do;
What I don’t take:
- NO short-termed magic-caused suffering, like spare limbs, transformations etc; however, a magically-induced serious disability fits;
- Lycanthropy doesn’t fit. In spite of the fact that it certainly can be seen as a case of disability in the magical world, it doesn’t exist in ours, and here I’m interested in our disabilities in the Wizarding world;
- NO torture. I’m interested in the state of disability and how it influences life and character, not in SM or torture as a process;
- NO long-term illnesses like pneumonia or flu (or Polka-Dot Plague);
- death in the ‘natural’ way, i.e. only because of age, although it’s a very interesting plot, won’t do;
- no WIPs that have only a chapter or two written;
- no drabbles;
- do not bring fics you haven’t read;
- do not bring fics you didn’t like;
- do not bring fics the authors of which show no grammar or spelling skill even if you liked them;
- do me a courtesy, please, do not leave only a link. I’d be really grateful if you tell me (besides the title and author) whether the fic is a WIP or completed, what the pairings and the rating are.

Harry is blinded (in fact he lost his eyes entirely) and uses Hedwig as a ’seeing eye bird’ if you will. Snape is degenerating because of the Dark Mark and in order to save him, Harry must impose a stronger bond than that of the Mark through sex. So really this could be filed under disability or bonds.
