Themed list: Mediwizardry

RULES

A fair warning: I’ve been out of HP fandom for quite a while by now. As I read HP fiction nearly not at all nowadays, please don’t expect these listings of mine to be kept up to date. If you report a broken link or suggest a new addition, I might fix/add it… in half a year. So please don’t use these lists as a proper gateway but rather as a general guidance for what to look in other places if you find a dead end here. For new stuff, check comments.

What I Take:

- as always, I’m interested not in the things mentioned in passing but in those shown in detail and in the things that weren’t in canon;

- fics where a character works as a healer or Mediwizard/witch in Hogwarts, St Mungo’s or any other hospital; if a character has a private medical business, working as a doctor or nurse. Their work must be shown in detail: how they help their patients, what they do every day etc.

- fics that show the inner working of a hospital and such.

King Draco’s Code, or What I Don’t Take:

- no therapy, shrinks, psychology, psychoanalysis, mind healing and other “soul medicine”; those fics go to the Therapy and soul-healing list. Psychiatry fits as long as it’s more medicine application than healing talks, as in Oscillate Wildly where we can also see how a hospital works;

- no canon cases, which means no Poppy;

- if a fic is focused on injure/disability and injured character more than on actual Mediwizard’s work, it goes to the Disability list (if it fits the conditions there). Once again, the theme of this list is Mediwizardry as a job;

- if a character’s work as a Mediwizard/witch is mentioned but not described in detail, the fic doesn’t qualify;

- no WIPs that have only a chapter or two written;

- no drabbles;

- do not bring fics that you haven’t read;

- do not bring fics that you didn’t like;

- do not bring fics the authors of which show no grammar or spelling skill even if you liked them;

- do me a courtesy, please, do not leave only a link. I’d be really grateful if you tell me (besides the title and author) whether the fic is a WIP or completed, what the pairings and the rating are; who works as a Mediwizard/witch and what kind of work they do. You’ll spare me hours of rushed reading!

Harry/Draco, NC-17, ~15,000 words. Team EWE. Summary: Life threatening injuries are an occupational hazard even for a seasoned Auror, but Harry Potter never considered the possibility of life altering injury. And why is it that Draco Malfoy has to be the one to help him? Draco isn’t quite a Mediwizard but he does work closely related to it.

Alternate Routes and other stories, by Raven Dancer NR
Gen, epic. Mind that Alternate Routes is not the first fic in the series. You can find the instruction in which order to read them on the author’s page. OCs mediwizards Dr. James Barnes and his son Dr. Jeffrey Barnes are introduced in Alternate Routes, later they reappear in Seventh Year Potions with Fred and George, Killing the Messenger, Interludes, Shadow Trolls and other stories.

The Amber Effect, by wandlimb (requires registration) NR
Snape/Hermione, NC-17, novel-length. Summary: “In this sequel to The Amber Solution, Severus and Hermione struggle to understand the intense longing for one another brought to the surface when they accidentally ingested Hermione’s botched potion.” Hermione is apprenticed to Madam Pomfrey.

Ambiguos Morality, by Jadzia7667 (or here) NR
Snape/Harry; R/NC-17, chaptered fic. Warnings: AU, Sirius is alive (I needed him) Mpreg. Summary: “Postwar fic. On his twenty first birthday Harry discovers he owes a debt that must be repaid. He pays it, with mixed results.” Forced bonding between Harry and Severus. Harry is a healer and apprenticed to Poppy Pomfrey and although not much is shown of his works, there are mentions throughout the fic of how his predicament is affecting his training.

Cartographer’s Craft, by Sam Vimes (copperbadge) ##
Harry/Sirius; NC-17, novel-length. Summary: “Sirius put a part of his 16-year-old self into the Map; he is taken out accidentally by Harry post-HBP. How does this new-Sirius deal with modern times?” Sirius decides that, unlike his previous, dead self, he wants to become a Healer. He asks Augustus Pye (canon healer) for career advice. He does not become a Healer in the story; however, there is a good thought-out description of what it takes to become a Healer.

Checkmate, by Naadi Moonfeather NR
Harry/Draco; PG-13, novel-length. Summary: “Draco has a plan to get Harry Potter, and challenges him to a game of dare chess - but is it seduction, or betrayal, he has in mind? A funny, tender and romantic Harry/Draco love story with generous helpings of angst and suspense thrown in for spice. A real chess game is played.” Harry is a trainee Mediwizard.

The Cinderman’s Kiss, by A-Spirit (coeur_de_ma_vie) (or on LJ) NR
Snape/Harry; R, WIP (on hiatus or discontinued). Summary: “Snape got hit with a nasty curse during the Final Battle. A few years later, Harry finds him literally moments from death and takes on the responsibility of curing him.” The story is quite detailed with regard to healing treatments and care of a quadriplegic. The focus is split between Harry’s medical care of Snape and Snape’s actual disability.

Harry/Draco, R/PG-13, novella. Post-Hogwarts, post-war. Both Harry and Draco work as Mediwizards on a small island in Shetland.

Harry/Draco, R, short. Summary: “Draco is the bait in a dangerous endgame.” Warnings: “Violence. Language. Dark themes. Bonding Spells. Misuse of Muggle medical technology. Angst. Schmoop. Severe OTP-ism.” Hermione is training for advanced hybrid Healing, using Muggle methodics.

Death Eater Takes a Holiday, by LeeLee Potter NR
Snape/HP; NC-17, long novel. Summary: “Albus spells a few Order members back to their seventh year age, and sends them to spend time at Hogwarts for a holiday. The Headmaster’s intent is for them to learn that Harry is indeed mature for his age, so that he will be accepted as a full member. What will happen when Severus returns from his time as a teen, to find he has spent the better part of the week entwined with a certain Gryffindor? And, how do their lives change afterwards?” There’s an OC Kieran - a freelance healer who attempts to free Harry’s suppressed reservoir of magic and there is description of a clinic and mediwizardry techniques.

Lupin/Tonks, Lupin/Snape, brief mentions of Snape/Lucius, Lupin/various (het and slash, all graphic), NC-17, one-shot. Summary: Remus survived the war intact and has the love of a beautiful, passionate young woman. He ought to be happy, but there seems to be a bit of a problem… Warnings/Kinks: Sexual dysfunction, wanking, frottage, oral, semi-public sex, rimming, magically-assisted analingus, mild bondage, orgasm denial.” Severus has established a private hospital and works in it as a healer.

Harry/Draco, NC-17, novellas. Summary: “Burned by an ex lover, Harry is determined to not get hurt again. What happens when he encounters a very different Draco Malfoy from the one he knew in school? A Draco Malfoy who has decided he would rather like to experience Harry’s ‘assets’…” Draco is a healer.

Not Quite What the Doctor Ordered, by Arionrhod
Snape/Lupin, R, novella. Summary: Severus Snape is a brilliant diagnostician, but it turns out that Remus Lupin is a very difficult case, in more ways than one. Notes: For cordeliadelayne, based on the request: AU. Snape is a cranky doctor a la House, Lupin is his patient. Unwillingly to believe there is no cure for the mysterious disease that plagues Lupin every full moon, Snape spends more and more time with his patient and finally succumbs to his flirting. Discovery of a cure optional. Happy ending a must.

Harry/Draco, NC-17, ~32200 words. Team: Fanon. Prompt: Strength. Warnings: Lots of swearing. Summary: Five years after the final battle at Hogwarts, Draco Malfoy has been paroled from Azkaban and works nights as a janitor at The Daily Prophet. Harry Potter, recently married to Ginny Weasley, is training as a Healer at St. Mungo’s. One wastebasket=one head injury=our story.

Once Upon A Time, In Egypt, by Josan (or here) ##
Gen; PG, novella. There is a goblin called Fet who is the head physician at Bill Weasley’s archaeological site. Fet plays quite an important part in ridding Snape of his drug addiction, counselling Bill, diagnosing problems. It’s not medicine as practised by human wizards but it’s medicine nevertheless.

Origins of Myth, by Arsenic Jade (or here) ##
Ron/Draco; also Snape/Hermione and Harry/OFC; NC-17, novella. Draco was stripped of magic by his father and sent to China where he has to work as a Muggle whore and help a local healer. Draco winds up apprenticed to a Muggle herbalist in China, after someone at St. Mungo’s decides that the herbalist has formulas and techniques that could be valuable to the healers of the Wizarding world.
